Russell Wilson Has Shown He Is Not A “Teacher’s Pet”

“One  Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Well as 2012 ends and 2013 starts, we here in Seattle are happy as football fans that our Seattle Seahawks are in the NFL playoffs under the leadership of Head Coach Pete Carroll. Man what a season! What a season!

The Hawks will play Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins next Sunday in D.C.  It will be a game that will feature two dynamic young and very intelligent QB’s in RB3 and Wilson.

Man it is going to be a exciting game. And both teams are good on defense too. It is not all the offense.

Readers I just knew that Russell Wilson was going to be a future star. I saw it in him while he was playing in college for the Badgers. I saw a star in the making. And then I saw it in pre-season games that the Seahawks played. While guys like former NFL QB and now football radio jock Hugh Millan was calling Wilson “a teacher’s pet” on local sports radio station KJR, I knew he would be a future star in the NFL.

Millan called Wilson “a teacher’s pet” more than once over the air with his buddy fellow radio jock on KJR Dave Mahler basically backing him up. They both wanted Matt Flynn to start and that Wilson should sit and watch and learn behind a “experienced” QB in Flynn. I was NOT buying it at all. By the way Millan called Wilson “a teacher’s pet” because Coach Carroll was standing behind Russell and bragging about him because of his steller play during the pre-season. Now Millan and others look like fools!

Under the leadership of Russell Wilson, the Seahawks are in the NFL playoffs. And by the way, RG3 is another future star just like Andrew Luck with the Colts. And all three of them are in the playoffs! Unreal. The playoffs will be off the chain this year and it is wide open to see who will be going to the Super Bowl. We in Seattle hope it is the Seattle Seahawks!!

Seth Jones: A New African American Star In The Sport Of Hockey

ARTICLE FROM nytimes.com (Full story click here)

Story on our Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Redskins in the NFL playoffs coming up soon right here on “Sports Inner City Online”.

I saw this article when I went online to look for good stories of  “Sports Inner City Online.”  It is a story that will not be talked about a lot on ESPN or other sports outlets but it should.

Seth Jones is a young 18 year old fella who is the son of a former NBA player “Popeye” Jones.  What makes this story different is Seth is not following his daddy and playing basketball. He is playing hockey. That’s  right hockey. And he is very good at the sport.

He is so good he might become the first real African American star in the NHL. Of course right now the NHL is in a long lockout and half of the season will be missed soon but young Jones is not their yet. He is currently playing for the Portland Winter-Hawks in the Western Hockey League, right down the road from Seattle where I am right now.

Word is Seth maybe the first African American player to be drafted #1 in the NHL draft. He is that good readers. I don’t follow the sport of hockey at all but I may have to check out a few of Portland’s games since Jones is nearby. If he is drafted very high in the NHL draft I am sure that ESPN and other major sports outlets will take notice.

First of all the question is when will the NHL draft take place? We do not know when this lockout will end. But I guess in the meantime Seth Jones will continue to improve in the minor leagues and will look forward for the lockout to end and he can make his family proud by becoming a future star in the NHL. We here at S.I.C. will let you know what is going on.

Kobe Is Great But Is He Also A Problem? I Think So!

ARTICLE FROM latimes.com (Click here for full story)

I saw this article on the Los Angeles Times website regarding superstar Kobe Bryant. We all know that Bryant is one of the greatest players of all time. Some say he is the nearest to MJ their is. But their is also another Kobe Bryant.

You can go back to when the Lakers were obtaining NBA title rings when Kobe was teamed with Shaq. Yes they won titles but if you can remember their was problems between Shaq and Kobe. Sometimes Shaq had a problem with Kobe shooting way to much without getting the ball down low in the post.

Now let’s talk about what is going on with the Lakers today. Recently big man Andrew Bynum said that playing with Bryant held up him from being a better player. Bynum is now with the 76ers.

Well I watched a lot of Laker games when Bynum was on the Lakers and saw plenty of times when Andrew worked his way open on the low post with his hands up for the ball and Kobe said the hell with Andrew and tossed up a shot from 20 or a 3 point shot. And I saw the disappointment in the big fellas face. So as a sports fan I was not shocked with Bynum’s comments about Kobe.

Now with the current Lakers, it seems when Kobe goes off for 30, it is not a Laker win. Yes he is shooting very well this season but again I have seen Dwight Howard work his way open on the low post and does not get the rock from from Kobe and I notice the disappointment on Howard’s face. In a game against the Warriors though did not shoot well and tossed up 41 SHOTS!!!

So the question is, does Kobe shoot to much? Does he feel he has to shoot all the time for the Lakers to win? What is going to happen when Nash returns on a regular basis which he has.? And by the way Pau Gasol, another big man does not receive the ball a lot in the low post from Kobe. So I guess we have to see what happens when Steve Nash returns on a regular basis to the Lakers.

Have The Seahawks Run Up Score Two Weeks In A Row?

ARTICLE READ HERE FROM fieldgulls.com

I am a sports fan here in Seattle and I am VERY happy for the success of Seattle Seahawks QB rookie Russell Wilson and our 9-5 team.

But I am not happy about the Hawks running up the score the last few weeks and the local media here in Seattle on sports radio etc taking up for our local team for running the score. It is wrong!

The Hawks had backup QB Matt Flynn passing in a complete blowout a few weeks ago and now Pete Carroll calls a fake punt against the Bills when we were up 47-17!!

And in the post game news conference Coach Carroll said “He was sorry for calling the fake punt and it was in the game plan for the game and he should have taken the play out” Give me a freakin break!

It was flat out wrong for the Hawks to run up the score on teams for two weeks in a row readers. Pure and simple. And also for sports radio hosts to take up for this stuff it is also wrong and if the shoe was on the other foot and the Seahawks was getting blown out 47-17 and a team did a fake punt, the jocks on radio would have went off like a rocket!! This is real talk folks!!

All I can say is, all this running up the score mess will come back to haunt our Seahawks. It could happen in the last few games or the possible playoffs or next season. You mark my words. IT WILL HAPPEN!  Gordon Curvey
