The Comments From Rob Parker On ESPN Were Stupid!

ARTICLE FROM espn.com  (Full story click here)

Last night I requested that a local sports radio station here in Seattle, Washington, sportsradio KJR pull the story on their website regarding the comments on “First Take” on ESPN by Rob Parker.

Why? Because this radio station has ZERO African Americans on the air on a regular basis. In more than twenty years on the air the ONLY African American on the air on a regular basis has been Rick Dupree, THAT’S IT!! So when you look at their website you will see all white faces when it comes to their on air staff. This is a problem that I have spoken out about for a long time but it seems KJR manangement does not want to change. It is truly sad.

So when a story comes up like this with Rob Parker saying Robert Griffin III is not a “real brother”, the all white staff on KJR does not have a clue how to discuss this issue. Myself being a African American can discuss this. Other African Americans can discuss this issue as well. When you go to KJR’s staff pics on their website you will see ZERO African Americans faces. This is terrible.

In my opinion, I think Parker’s comments was stupid and way out of line and why he said these comments is beyond me readers. Is it because he has a white girlfriend? Or is it because he may be a Republican? Regardless, it was wrong and out of line in my opinion.

RG3 is a role model for millions of African American kids who want to grow up and be a QB like him. They see RG3 doing a lot of commercials and of course doing big things on the field as a rookie for the Redskins. I just don’t understand why Parker would make such comments regarding RG3. Has he ever talked to him? I don’t think so.

Parker’s comments, wrong as they are should have been made on B.E.T or in other African American media, not on national TV on ESPN. What Parker should be talking about is how exciting RG3 is. And he should be talking about how he might be rookie of the year this year. It is between RG3 and of course Andrew Luck of the Colts.

I am glad Stephen A. Smith took the high road with his answers. Should Parker be suspended for his comments? HELL NO in my opinion!! He was just speaking how he feel about RG3. I HAVE HEARD CHARLES BARKLEY SAY MUCH WORSE THINGS ABOUT PEOPLE ON TNT. I don’t think Rob Parker should have been suspended. He was giving his feeling about RG3. I hope ESPN will quickly bring Parker back.

Truth be told, I have heard Stephen A. say some things that was on the line. Also many of Parkers past comments on issues I have agreed with. And I am happy to see a pretty African American female host on “First Take” as well as plenty of African American guest on the show in rap and r&b and sports like Brandy, T.I., Lil Wayne and others giving their views on sports issues.

Hopefully Parker can come back on the program in the near future. Because I may disagree with him on RG3, it was his opinion. That is what the show “First Take” is about right?

Do The Mariners Want to Have A Huge TV Screen Or Win?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Today we in Seattle found out the the Angels will sign Josh Hamilton to a big contract. I knew Hamilton was not coming here to play with the Seattle Mariners.

It seems the Mariners want to make Safeco Field a great ball park for the fans but not put a great team on the field. The Mariners are building a HUGE tv screen/scoreboard that will be bigger than the one at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas. This is good for the fans coming to Safeco. But again what about the team?

I am a sports fan who loves to watch a winning team here in Seattle. Our only real title is the 1979 NBA title won by our dearly departed Seattle Sonics. I want a team that can maybe go to the World Series or Super Bowl.  I watched the happy fans of the Giants celebrate after their team won the Series. I said to myself will that ever happen here? It seems not.

Well the way the Mariner management have run things we will never go to the Series in my lifetime. It seems Seattle management wants fans to pay for expensive parking, hot dogs and beer at Safeco Field. And watch a huge new scoreboard/tv screen while ladies knit a sweater or guys and gals text on their smartphones. Do Mariner management want a winning team on the field? It seems not.

O.K they have brought the fences in. That is great. So now why not try to obtain a power hitter to hit a lot of homers over the brought in fences? Hamilton is not coming so what about trying to sign a five tool player in young Justin Upton? I don’t care if he says he does not want to in Seattle. LET’S TRY TO TRADE FOR UPTON!! Did the Mariners try to sign his brother B.J? No! Did the Mariners really go after Hamilton or Prince Fielder last year? No! Mariner fans are getting fed up with Mariner management for sure!

Guess the Mariners want us to watch these so called “young” players mature etc. While we have ANOTHER 80 TO 90 loss season here in Seattle. This is not right sports fans. So now since Hamilton is going to the Angels what will the Mariners do now? Sit back and just sign the great Jason Bay? (Who) or will the Seattle Mariners make a blockbuster pick up of a power hitter for Safeco?

Remember we the team that traded away a possible superstar in five tool player Adam Jones to Baltimore for basically Erik Badard who is out of league. Jones is doing great things on the field and in the Baltimore community helping inner city kids to maybe play baseball and also stay in school and get a good education. We don’t have a player like that with the Mariners right now. We need it bad!!!

Who Are The Top 5 NBA Players Of All Time?

I heard a interview with Laker legend and Hall of Fame member “Magic” Johnson on the “Mike and Mike” TV/Radio show on ESPN and a discussion came up about who is the top five NBA players of all time.

It took Mike and Mike and callers almsot a hour to finally come up with their choices.  This is a very tough debate for NBA fans everywhere. Because many great players will not be on the list.

How bout Jerry West or Karl “Mailman”  Malone or Larry Bird or the “Big O” Oscar Roberson or “Dr. J” Julius Erving? Did Mike and Mike have them on the list?

Before I get to their list, to me the greatest NBA player of all time is “Magic” Johnson because remember sports fans, “Magic” was a 6-9 POINT GUARD! How many 6-9 great point guards can you name? I can name only one…”Magic” He controled the game unlike the great M.J. This is just my opinion.

So let’s get to “Mike and Mike” top five NBA players of all time in no order. They are “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, the late Wilt Chamberlain and finally of course the great Micheal Jordan. Yes they had three centers on their list.

I can agree with their list. One thing for sure, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant can be added to the greatest of all time NBA players for sure in coming years.    Gordon Curvey
