Do The Mariners Want to Have A Huge TV Screen Or Win?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Today we in Seattle found out the the Angels will sign Josh Hamilton to a big contract. I knew Hamilton was not coming here to play with the Seattle Mariners.

It seems the Mariners want to make Safeco Field a great ball park for the fans but not put a great team on the field. The Mariners are building a HUGE tv screen/scoreboard that will be bigger than the one at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas. This is good for the fans coming to Safeco. But again what about the team?

I am a sports fan who loves to watch a winning team here in Seattle. Our only real title is the 1979 NBA title won by our dearly departed Seattle Sonics. I want a team that can maybe go to the World Series or Super Bowl.  I watched the happy fans of the Giants celebrate after their team won the Series. I said to myself will that ever happen here? It seems not.

Well the way the Mariner management have run things we will never go to the Series in my lifetime. It seems Seattle management wants fans to pay for expensive parking, hot dogs and beer at Safeco Field. And watch a huge new scoreboard/tv screen while ladies knit a sweater or guys and gals text on their smartphones. Do Mariner management want a winning team on the field? It seems not.

O.K they have brought the fences in. That is great. So now why not try to obtain a power hitter to hit a lot of homers over the brought in fences? Hamilton is not coming so what about trying to sign a five tool player in young Justin Upton? I don’t care if he says he does not want to in Seattle. LET’S TRY TO TRADE FOR UPTON!! Did the Mariners try to sign his brother B.J? No! Did the Mariners really go after Hamilton or Prince Fielder last year? No! Mariner fans are getting fed up with Mariner management for sure!

Guess the Mariners want us to watch these so called “young” players mature etc. While we have ANOTHER 80 TO 90 loss season here in Seattle. This is not right sports fans. So now since Hamilton is going to the Angels what will the Mariners do now? Sit back and just sign the great Jason Bay? (Who) or will the Seattle Mariners make a blockbuster pick up of a power hitter for Safeco?

Remember we the team that traded away a possible superstar in five tool player Adam Jones to Baltimore for basically Erik Badard who is out of league. Jones is doing great things on the field and in the Baltimore community helping inner city kids to maybe play baseball and also stay in school and get a good education. We don’t have a player like that with the Mariners right now. We need it bad!!!
