As some of you may know, I have been real out spoken on the problems of local sports radio stations here in Seattle, ESPN 710 and sports radio KJR. The problems are there are zero African Americans on the air as regular sportscasters on both of the stations. Not only that there are none in sales, producers and in management.
What is also going on is these stations interview African Americans sports stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp for big ratings. Otherwords “using” African Americans for interviews but will not hire them.
KJR has been on the air for about twenty years and has had ONE African American on the air as a sportscaster on a “semi-regular” basis, Rick Dupree. And that is all. 710 ESPN which has been the air for about two years has not had any African Americans on the air on a regular basis.
Why is it when African Americans and people of color dominate the three major sports, these stations cannot hire one? It is the “ole boy network” going on at sportsradio KJR and 710 ESPN here in Se
attle.
It is a severe problem. I heard the WORST interview I ever heard when sportscaster Dave Mahler of KJR tried to interview one of my idols in the sports world Kareem. Mahler brought up what he is doing these days and Kareem brought up a book he has done on a African American team back in the days.
Mahler did not have any insightful follow up to what Kareem was talking about. If a African American was doing the interview that would have been different in my opinion. This kind of stuff has went on time and time again on these radio stations. Guys interviewing people they cannot relate to.
I will continue to use my site to discuss this topic of exclusion of African Americans on sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN. Next I will write about the “Bigger Dance” held by sportscaster Mitch Levy of KJR. Gordon Curvey

The problems continue for your rookie DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. And the question is when will some one reach out to this young man?
Cousins got upset at a teammate for not getting him the ball at the end of a recent game and blew up. So he was removed from the team plane.
The team right now is trying to figure out what to do with Cousins next. He has had a series of blowups already here in his rookie season.
I think someone like former King and now broadcaster Chris Webber (former guest on our sister TV show “Music Inner City TV”) should reach out to the young fella and talk to him and counsel him. He needs help to control his temper. The time to help Cousins is now in my opinion.
Cousins is a 6-11 big man who has tons of talent. He has all-star potential but someone needs to help him right now so he can work on his temper and be the great player he can be. Gordon Curvey

O.K. what is next in the life of former #1 golfer in the world Tiger Woods. Now Tiger is all over the Internet and in the news for spitting on the golf course during play at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Woods said he was sorry via Twitter for his actions. But I think this is making a mountain out of a molehill readers.
Everything Tiger Woods does is under a microscope. No matter what ever he does the media is ready to jump on him big time. Tiger has to watch everything he does. That includes cussing after he hits a bad shot etc.
In reality, I just want to see Tiger Woods win a event. He has not won in a long time. When will we see the real Tiger come back? All sports fans are waiting for Woods to win. Everyone wins when Tiger is near the lead in a event. The ratings are high on TV etc.
Yes Tiger was wrong for spitting on the course. But again I just want to see Tiger win a event. Gordon Curvey

I just saw various reports online and in the media in general about the Lakers GM maybe wanting to shake things up with the two-time champs defending champs Los Angeles Lakers.
So I thought about possible trades for the Lakers to make in order to help them maybe win their third title in a row. How bout Ron Artest for Seattle’s own and my friend Jamal Crawford? Artest is not playing like he played last year. This is a fact.
He has a ring now so is he relaxed in his play on the court? I know this what I read Kobe is not happy. I don’t think Coach Jackson is not happy too with the play of Ron. Might of fact rumors are Ron and Jackson had a run in at a Laker practice a few weeks ago.
Crawford is 31. Artest is 31. Both have played in the league for around 10 years. Jamal can help take some of the scoring load off of Bryant. And also with Matt Barnes returning soon, he can replace Artest.
I think it would be a good trade for both Atlanta and the Lakers because Atlanta is going nowhere. They did not make a big addition in the off-season. So why not trade for Artest? I think a Artest-Crawford trade would be a good trade for the Lakers and Atlanta is a Laker trade is made. Gordon Curvey

Will the NFL finally return to one of the biggest radio/tv market in the U.S. Los Angeles? Well the city took the first step by having Farmers Insurance stepping up to the plate with huge dollars for the new name of a possible new stadium next to the Staples Center in downtown L.A. Well it was great while it lasted Seahawk fans. My hometown Seattle Seahawks were eliminated from the NFL playoffs when the Chicago Bears beat the Hawks 35-24 in snowy Soldier Field.
Truth be told the best team won the game. No one expected the Seattle Seahawks to be anywhere near two games from the Super Bowl. No one.
Matt Hasselbeck was 26-46 for 248 yards. Running back Marshawn Lynch only had 4 carries for 2 yards after his monster game and run last week.
Much props has to go out to head coach Pete Carroll for leading the team and telling them they can win no matter what the national media says. They beat the champs Saints when no one thought they could.
But the Bears are a very tough team. Anyway thanks to the Seattle Seahawks and we will see you next season for a even better year. Question is, will Matt Hasselbeck be back? We will see. Gordon Curvey
“Sports Inner City Online” will be conducting a exclusive interview soon with Seattle native and NFL great Eric Metcalf. The interview can be heard via “Sports Inner City Radio” podcasts very soon.
