Deion And Wive Need To Keep Their Problems Private

ARTICLE FROM popularcritic.com (Full story click here)

Sports fans I don’t know about you but I am tired of reading about the problems of NFL Hall Of Famer Deion Sanders and his soon to be ex-wive Pilar.

In my opinion they need to keep their problems out of the public eye. Why is Sanders going on “Good Morning America” discussing his marriage going into detail about his wive his wive and kids? This is crazy!

But check this out. Deion was way out of bounds sort of speak when he put on Twitter of himself and kids filling out papers on the kid mom Pilar to stay away from the house!! This is WRONG!! Flat out WRONG on Deion’s part.

Deion is way out of pocket!! He should NEVER get his children involved with the problems between mom and dad. NEVER!! Deion got hip and took the pic down from Twitter. But the damage was done.

Yes I realize Deion is a so called celebrity and a public person but this stuff going on between Sanders and his wive has gone over the line. We are finding out everything about them and their relationship. Stuff that should be kept private. That is the bottom line.

I hope Deion AND his wive would stop the public statements and get a divorce and both of them can move on. It will be good for Deion and for Pilar and many good for the kids.  Gordon Curvey

Penny Hardaway Doing A Lot After The NBA

ARTICLE FROM bleacherreport.com (Full story click here)

When I ran across this article about “Penny” Hardaway it put a big smile on face because it is the kind of story I like to write about here on “Sports Inner City Online” A very positive story.

To many times you sports fans read about African Americans and people of color in the NFL and NBA and elsewhere in trouble. In trouble with drugs or hitting his wife and getting behind in child support etc. There is not enough positive information about what current players or past players are doing in the community to help the youth etc. We need more POSITIVE stories written because we are not all THUGS.

Above is a article about a former star in the NBA who is know making a difference once he left the courts of the NBA. For you young readers, Penny was a great NBA player. He even had a doll called “Little Penny” that was very popular in TV commercials etc.

Guys like Penny and Mayor Kevin Johnson, Shaq, Micheal Jordan, Reggie Jackson, Ray Lewis, David Robinson, Shawn Kemp, GaryPayton, Eric Metcalf, Warren Moon, LeBron James, Torii Hunter and of course Magic Johnson and many other former and current starts who are people of color are giving back to the community and are making a difference.

What Penny is doing now is great. The media needs to discuss more positive stories on people of color in the sports word. We here at “Sports Inner City Online” will try to do jut that.    Gordon Curvey

Artest (aka Mata World Peace) Called A “Thug”/What About NHL Players?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

http://shawnsjames.blogspot.com/2012/01/thug-is-not-man.html

Please read the article above. It explains how a lot of African Americans feel about the word THUG.

I have heard Ron Artest (aka Mata World Peace) called a THUG by racists like JT The Brick and other very negative names by white sports jocks on sports radio and by white callers on sports radio on Fox Sports Radio, Yahoo Sports radio and other outlets on TV and radio and online.

I am not taking up for the terrible elbow by Artest. He was FLAT OUT WRONG and should be suspended  I say about five games. Those five games Artest will not get HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!  But this word THUG is ONLY used against African American men by white folks.

It is a CODE WORD FOR THE WORD NIGGA!! I have NEVER heard a white guy in sports or outside of sports called a THUG. THIS IS A FACT.

And here a important fact. The white media is not saying that #1 James Harden did a bunch of showboating in front of the Laker bench when he made a few baskets AND a player hit Artest with a elbow to the nose earlier. So Artest was already pissed.

And this. I do not think Artest knew Harden was in the way of the elbow.  I have looked at the elbow twenty times online. I am not trying to excuse Artest. But he was celebrating a great dunk and Harden got in the way. Harden was trying to get under Artest’s skin because it is known that Artest ha a short fuse even though Ron has kept his temper under control. I don’t think Artest has many techs his season and last season too.

White NHL players ARE NOT called THUGS. These guys throw elbows, knock out players teeth, blood is on the ice etc. For  some unknown reason, fighting most of the time is ACCEPTED in the NHL. THEY ARE NEVER CALLED THUGS!!!!!!!!!!! Lightweight names like “goon” or names like “chippy play” is used for VICIOUS FIGHTING in the NHL. WHY??????

Is Bud Selig Riding The Fence When It Comes To Ozzie & Castro?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Well readers something strange is going on. If you are a sports fan you know that baseball boss Bud Selig has suspended Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen for his praising off Cuba leader Fidel Castro in a recent article.

The Cuban-American community is very upset at Ozzie about his comments and the Miami Marlins better get ready for protests in front of the brand new stadium in Miami every game.

Word is a lot of Cuban-Americans want Guillen fired. And fired now. But wait a minute readers. As you can see by the pic Selig has kicked it with Castro in Cuba in 1999. Going to a baseball game and had a meeting with him.

So readers is Bud Selig riding the fence? Was he correct in suspending Ozzie for five games for what he said but Selig is in pics with the Cuban leader? Some are saying Selig is wrong for doing this to Ozzie since this pic is out on the net and elsewhere. I am saying he is wrong too.

I think Ozzie was WRONG for what he said about Castro because Castro has held the people of Cuba back. If you go to Havana, it is like going into a way back machine.

People are driving old smoking cars from the 50’s and 60’s. If something happens the cars and they need parts, that car is in trouble. No internet access for most and no access for concerts for young people with Beyonce and Rihanna or Kanye etc. Truly sad.

But having said that, Selig is wrong for what he did to Ozzie. He should have thought first because he acted. He should have thought to himself that their might be backlash when the pic surface with himself in Cuba hangin with the Cuban dictator.

So let’s see what happens when it comes to Ozzie when it comes to the protests by concerned Cuban-Americans and others in Miami. We will keep you up to speed right here on SIC!

Tony Wroten Jr. Leaving UW For The NBA

ARTICLE FROM seattletimes.com (Full story click here)

University of Washington hoop fans knew this day was coming but it is still kind of a shock that UW player Tony Wroten Jr. is departing the school to put in his name in the pool to be drafted by the NBA.

In my opinion as a hoop junky, he is a VERY talented player. One of the most talented basketball players ever out of the state of Washington. Up to par with his aunt and my child hood friend Joyce Walker, the most talented female basketball player ever out of the state of Washington.

Wroten’s mom Shirley was a great track star at Garfield High, the school her son was a star at also. Gafield High School has put out a lot of good football, basketball and track atheletes over the years.

I think he could have stayed another year in school to work on his game. But this is just my opinion as a basketball fan.

For instance Tony needs to work on a jumper from 15 to 25 ft. And since Tony is left handed, he needs to work on his right hand. So again in my opinion and others here in Seattle, Wroten Jr. is not ready for the NBA. BUT he has a lot of time to work on his game. Heck maybe my good friend Troy Miles can help Wroten on his game. But he is going to have to want it.

But if you read Percy Allen’s story above, he will go late in the first round. So I guess NBA coaches see the “upside”  in Tony.

I also think this readers. I think the UNFAIR sports media in Seattle and the UNFAIR so called Husky fans helped to push this young man out of UW with it’s constant negative talk about him.

For instance Tony’s “posse” and his “globetrotter” moves on the court and Tony “dominating” the ball and leaving other players watching etc. It was like Wroten Jr. was out on the court by himself taking on five of the other team. Just very unfair. Just wrong.

So when Tony gets drafted in a few months it will add ANOTHER NBA player from the Seattle area. Joining Seattle area natives Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry, Nate Robinson, Ishiah Thomas, Terrence Williams, Montell Webster, Marvin Williams and Spencer Hawes. Ex NBA star Brandon Roy is also from Seattle and went to Garfield High School just like Wroten Jr.

Of course we will follow the career of Tony Wroten Jr. as he gets ready for the NBA right here on SIC.   Gordon Curvey
