Sports Radio KJR Producer Calls Griner “He” Over The Air!

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon E. Curvey

As some of you know I have been speaking out on the flat out racism and sportsradio KJR here in Seattle because of the fact in their twenty years over the air here in the Seattle/Tacoma and Everett, Washington area, they have had only ONE African American over the air as a sports host. Just one!! His name is Rick Dupree.

It is the “good ole boy network” in full effect on radio here in Seattle. When African Americans and people of color dominate the three major sports in the U.S. how can we have a sports radio station in KJR that does not employ people of color? In a city like Seattle. A city known for it’s DIVERSITY!!

Now they can be charged with unfair treatment of women too. This is a station runs a yearly contest called “The Bigger Dance” where 64 basketball (like in college basketball) is replaced by 64 women. Entertainers, sports stars etc.

The ladies are put in “brackets” and callers call in and vote for the lady they want to win. By the way every year 95% of the 64 ladies are white or not people of color. It is a racist and sexest so called contest.

To make matters worse. Today on sports host Dave Mahler’s program, Mahler and producer whose last name is Abker started to talk about college basketball and if Kentucky can beat the Washington Wizards of the NBA.

Somehow the topic of the WNBA came up and Mahler blasted the WNBA (as he always does). He said  the league  plays “below the rim” Abker brought up the African American star player at Baylor University Brittney Griner who is a VERY good player who is dominating ladies basketball. And she has dunked numourous times during games.

Abker then said “Yeah HE can really play” and Mahler and Abker both laugh. This comment by Abker is SEXEST!!! And in my opinion he should be fired or suspended ny KJR’s management ASAP.

This sexest comment made by Abker is the kind of crap that these guys have got away with in twenty years of KJR. Racist comments and sexest comments but NOTHING happens to the staff.

I am upset at this comment by Abker. I am going to see what happens to him. Most likely nothing. The racist and sexest comments against African Amercans and people of color and women needs to stop on KJR.

Bad timing with Abker’s sexest comments about Brittney Griner right before the sexest so called contest held by Mitch.

And by the way, Abker also called the African American player on the Mariners Chone Figgins “a bum” over the air today. Mahler said to Abker “Will you say that to Figgins in his face” and Abker said “yes”

Dave Mahler called Chone Figgins “a common criminal” over the air last season. Something in my opinion he should have been suspended for. So Chone Figgins has been called ” bum” and a “common criminal” on KJR. What is going on readers! This kind of treatment HAS TO STOP!!

Magic Johnson One Of New Owners Of Los Angeles Dodgers!

ARTICLE FROM yahoosports.com (Full story click here)

Wow what a HUGE story! I think this might be a start to help get young African American youth interested in the sport called baseball. Because NBA Hall Of Fame member and five time NBA champ Ervin “Magic” Johnson is now a owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The sale is for two BILLION dollars. Let me repeat two BILLION dollars!! Please read the above story for all the inside details of the deal.

I am just happy to see a African American as a owner of a major sports team in the United States. Magic is joined by others who are owners also. It’s a team of people who are involved. Of course Micheal Jordan owns te terribel Charlette Hornets. MJ needs to do shake something up BIG TIME with the Bobcats.

As a African American, I am VERY happy to see Magic as a owner of the LA Dodgers. He is a winner. A TREMENDOUS businessman and I think of “showtime” when I think of Magic Johnson.

When I go to games at Safeco Field here in Seattle I just see white faces in the stands. The marketing of baseball in Seattle to the inner city is flat out terrible.

The marketing of baseball on a national basis to inner cities is terrible. With Magic a owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers it can only help baseball as a whole as far as I concerned to get more inner city kids involved in playing baseball.

Big shout out to Magic. This is a big day in sports.   Gordon Curvey

Why Are Seahawks Fans & Media Hyped Up Over Matt Fynn?

ARTICLE FROM bleacherreport.com (Full story click here)

Folks I am sitting here as a sports fan in Seattle wondering WHY are Seattle Seahawk football fans jumping over themselves over the signing of a QB who has started a grand total of TWO NFL GAMES!!

Matt Flynn was signed to a contract to battle Tarvaris Jackson for the starting position with the Seahawks this coming season. This should be very very interesting. It will be a battle in training camp for sure.

But again readers, why the hype over Matt Flynn? I don’t understand. Flynn did very well in TWO games. The last game was the last game of the year when he started for the Packers. They had already wrapped up their position in the NFL playoffs.

We here in Seattle are acting like we just signed Payton Manning or Dree Brees or a young Johhny Unitas! Give me a break!

Seattle fans just want to see T-Jack fail. They say they saw enough of him last year so they have named Matt Flynn the starter for next season already without a battle between Flynn and T-Jack in training camp and pre-season games. This is VERY unfair to Jackson.  Jackson is taking a beating on sports radio and on letters to the edtior etc.

In reality, Jackson did not to do bad last season. Not to good, not to bad. Here in Seattle fans have said T-Jack is a back up QB who was a starter most of the season by Seahawks coaches.

Yes T-Jack did not do well the last few games of last season. He has his faults for sure. I will not deny that. But also he was running for his life a lot of the time when his o-line did not give him time in the pocket. Payton Manning or any other QB would not have have done well as QB with the Hawks last season.

Before Seahawks fans and sports radio hosts (on 710 ESPN and KJR) crown Flynn the almighty savior of the Hawks, let Flynn and T-Jack have a battle in training camp. All this Flynn talk here in Seattle is a flat out dis-service to Tarvaris Jackson in my opinion.   Gordon Curvey

Tired Of Hearing About Dwight Howard Trade!

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon E. Curvey

As a basketball fan it seems I cannot turn on NBA-TV or ESPN or TNT without the question coming up “Will Dwight Howard get traded from Orlando” I am tired of hearing about this.

If the Magic are going to trade him then trade him. If not then let’s chill out and stop all the Howard talk and play basketball please.

Of course Howard is not helping matters when he constantly saying he is 50-50  about staying in Orlando the rest of the season. I wish he was 100%. He should shut up and stay in Orlando just like Hall Of Famer “Magic” Johnson says.

Truth be told as a sports fan I am tired of cats like Howard and Melo and Chris Paul demanding trades. They are and were holding the fans of Denver and N.O. and Orlando hostage not knowing what the team was going to do. And also the players are held hostage too. It is unfair all the way around.

So I hope the NBA trade deadline will show that Dwight Howard is staying or going from the Orlando Magic. Because I am tired of hearing about it. And if you are a basketball fan you should be tired too.

Does MLB Care About Reaching African American Fans?

ARTICLE FROM hardballtalk.com (Full story click here)

I am the editor of “Music Inner City News Magazine” www.musicinnercity.com and here at “Sports Inner City Online” as well as producer of “Music Inner City TV) I am also a sports fan. And I am person who is trying in my own way to reach the African American community to get  more fans to attend Seattle Mariners games at Safeco Field.

But sorry to say, it seems our Mariners really do not care about reaching African American fans to maybe come to games at Safeco. I say this because I  have tried over and over to obtain advertising dollars from the Mariners for my TV show “Music Inner City TV” and on my websites.

The Mariners requested I call the advertising agency that handles all the Mariners ads. I have called them at least five times. Got voicemail and leave a voicemail and do not get a call back.

Over the last few years the Mariners have done “token” advertising in the Facts and Medium Newspapers here in Seattle. Two African American newspapers here in town. It seems the Seattle Mariners do not care about reaching African American baseball fans. But it also seems MLB as a whole do not care also.

The question is why readers? Last season New York Yankee player Curtis Granderson wondered where are the African American fans at games. I also heard a interview that Seattle Mariner broadcaster Dave Sims (who is African American) did with Seattle Times writer Steve Kelly on his K-Cast podcast and he mentioned that MLB has a problem with African Americans not coming to games at Safeco Field. The he can count on one hand the African American fans at games.

So it seems African Americans are not playing baseball like they used to and not coming to games too. It is a problem that our Seattle Mariners and MLB seem not to care about.

Why have a “Jackie Robinson Day” here in Seattle and in all MLB parks. Mr. Robinson would not be happy at all if he attended a game at Safeco Field or even Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park. He would ask where are the African American players and fans.

It seems our Mariners do not care like they should and MLB too.  Gordon Curvey
