Sports Inner City Online Bio: Micheal Jordan

FULL BIO click here from wikipedia.com

Readers it is AMAZING how MJ is still a powerful and very popular man at almost 50 years of age. Since Micheal Jordan retired from the NBA, the ratings for NBA games have not been the same. When MJ was playing on TV people watched.

Why did people watch? Because some say Jordan is the best player who has ever played the game of basketball. These days folks want to call Lebron James “The King” JAMES IS NOT THE KING!!! The King is and will always be MJ. The man won six NBA titles and it could have been more if he did not “retire” to play baseball.

As a NBA fan I just miss Micheal Jordan. I am sorry their is not a player today who can come up to MJ’s standards. Kobe and Lebron are great great players but they are not Micheal Jordan. They know it and we know it as basketball fans.

But after MJ retired he has turned into a first class businessman who is worth at least $500 million!! His Jordan sneakers have sold millions and millions all over the world. People can’t wait for the new Jordans to come out. He has helped make Phil Knight of Nike a VERY VERY rich man.

The only thing MJ has failed at is being a GM of a basketball team. Now he is a owner of the Charlette Bobcats. And let’s face it readers, the Bobcats have been TERRIBLE!! Recently word has come out that MJ is going to let his new GM Rich Cho do his thing and allow him to make all the moves and “run the show”. So let’s see what happens with the Bobcats.

Like I said, the NBA never been the same since MJ retired. HELL sports has not been the same since Jordan retired. Real talk,

Seattle City Council Reaches Agreement To Build New Arena

ARTICLE FROM seattletimes.com (Full story click here)

Today was a very happy day for those of us here in Seattle who miss out departed Seattle Sonics who left town in 2008 for the dust town called Oklahoma City. Of course the team is named the Thunder and yes they made it to the NBA finals this past season.

The Seattle City Council announced a agreement with billionaire Chris Hansen for the building of a brand new state of art arena to be built in the SoDo area here in Seattle.

Man….as a HUGE NBA fan and a Sonic fan since childhood it is a great day. And when the final vote of the council happens along with the King County Council vote it will be another great day!! (pic from Seattle Times)

That means a NBA team is coming back to our city. We Sonics fans know they should not have ever left. But they did and that is water under the bridge. We can just count the days when we are awarded another team here in Seattle. Will it be the Kings or Memphis? I don’t know. All I know is I want the NBA back in Seattle!!

I want to give a big shout to Chris Hansen for putting up MILLIONS to buy property in the SoDo area to build our new arena. This cat is a true blue Sonic fan who hit it rich and said he wants to help bring the Sonics back to Seattle. What a great dude!!!  Also a big shout out to Brian Robinson and also Jason Reid and Adam Brown of Sonicgate for the tremendous work to help get this arena built.

I hope the man above will keep me here so I can see “The Glove” Gary Payton and “The Reign Man” Shawn Kemp get their jerseys retired at the new arena and we can thank them for all the thrills they gave me and millions of Sonic fans. Plus I want to hear Kevin Calabro giving his magic carpet call with maybe Marques Johnson again on radio.

But the main man in all of this is Chris Hansen. Pure and simple. We will keep you informed with all the arena news right here on S.I.C!

Serena Wins But CBS Would Not Let Her Talk!!

ARTICLE FROM washingtonpost.com (Full story click here)

One thing is for sure readers and that is Serena Williams is the greatest female tennis player of all times. I am sorry Chris Everett and others including Martina because Williams is the best. She is dominating female tennis. She is just great. Period!

In my opinion the media and that includes sports radio does not speak up enough about how Serena dominates female tennis. She is at the age (3o) when tennis players, male and female are retired or are near retirement. But it seems Serena is getting better with age. Her sister Venus who has won her share of of major titles seems to be slowing way down at age 32 but not her little sis.  She now has won 15 GRAND SLAM TITLES!!!

But I am real bothered by the actions of CBS in their treatment of Serena after her win. I was watching when Serena won the title in three sets over world #1 Victoria Azarenka and I watched Williams go over in joy to hug her mom and family etc. Then CBS went to a commercial and after that I wanted to hear a interview with Serena BUT CBS seemed to worry about their program lineup instead of interviewing Serena.

Would this happen if Phil Mickleson won the U.S. Open or Andy Murrey won the men’s open in tennis? I don’t think so. Serena wanted to speak to her fans at the venue and on TV but CBS did not think that was important.  In my opinion that was wrong on CBS and a slap in the face of most likely the best female tennis player in history!  We here at Sports Inner City is going to give Serena Williams love and respect, unlike CBS!! Dwight Howard To Work Out With “The Captain” Kareem

ARTICLE FROM espn.com (Click here for full story)

As we sports fans know “Superman” Dwight Howard has joined “The Black Mumba” the great Kobe Bryant and new point guard Steve Nash with the Los Angeles Lakers and myself as a writer and a NBA fan cannot wait to for the season to start.

The starting lineup for the Lakers most likely will be Nash, Bryant, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest and Howard. Man…on paper that is a power packed lineup except for the fact that  Howard will be the only player in the starting lineup under twenty.

But still the Lakers will challenge the Heat and other top teams for the title this coming year. That is for sure. And Howard has reached out to the person who scored more points than any player in the history of the NBA “The Captain” Kareem Abdul Jabbar for his knowledge.

For sure Kareem can help Dwight with his post moves. Because yes Howard has scored 20 and 10 every year but he does not have a go to move like Kareem had the famous sky hook he tossed on cats for 20 years. It was a move that could not be stopped. That is fact. But also Kareem can help Howard off the court with his wisdom and knowledge on life.

So I am glad to see Dwight reaching back to stars from the past to help him with his game. Let see what happens in the 2012-2013 NBA season. A full season unlike 2011-2012.   Gordon Curvey

Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. was cut by the Seattle Seahawks and people are asking why? He is a player that has been very productive in his years in the NFL. He averaged 70 catches a season while at Tampa Bay. Read more about this story right here via sports.yahoo.com

The Marketing Of Felix Hernandez/Something Is Wrong!

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Something wrong is happening here in Seattle and I guess I will be the first to write about it. And that is the lack of marketing of a superstar in Seattle, Mariner pitcher, Felix Hernandez.

Felix is one of if not the best pitcher in major league baseball. He is the only pitcher I would pay to see or want to watch on TV every time he hits the mound here at Safeco Field or on TV from the road. He is a true Seattle star and MLB star that is not seen on any commercials in the Seattle area except for the corny Mariner commercials.

In my opinion Hernandez should be seen on commercials like former Mariner Jay “The Bone” Buhner who for some reason is seen on TV and heard on radio selling trucks saying “Tell em The Bone sent ya” all the time.

Yes Felix does not talk the best English but he is much better speaking than he used to be and again in my opinion Felix Hernandez should be seen more on tv and radio selling cars or what ever. Or seen in magazine ads or newspaper ads or online ads selling products. Why this is not happening is beyond me.

The only marketing I see for Felix is his “King’s Court” which are fans who show up at Safeco Field in one area holding “K” cards “King” Felix. And that’s about it when it comes to the marketing of “King” Felix. This is wrong.

Here in Seattle we had Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp and Matt Hasslebeck and Ken Griffey Jr as superstars over the years and in my opinion Hernandez should be added to the list. Kemp and G.P. and Matt and Shawn did commercials for local and national outlets. So way not Feliz? This fella recently tossed the first perfect game in Seattle Mariner history.

Local businesses should be calling up Hernandez management to do a commercial for them. But like I said here in Seattle you only see Felix on a Mariner commercial that was filmed months ago in freakin spring training!! Give me a break!

The fella should be all over the place. He has charisma, has personality and most all of is the only true sports star in Seattle right now. He is in the running right now to win his second Cy Young Award. I do not know who is at fault for the lack of marketing of Feliz Hernandez. Is it the Mariners? Or is it his management? Or is it local and nation outlets who do not want to hire a person whose english is not the very best. I don’t know readers.

Hopefully with myself bringing this topic up, it may be the start in a small way of seeing the superstar Felix Hernandez not just on the mound of a MLB park but also a billboard or TV or website or newspaper ad. I guess a question should be asked would this be going if Felix was pitching in New York or Chicago or L.A.?
