As a sports fan I am bothered to read about another sports star who refuses to walk away from the game and do something else besides playing football, baseball and basketball, boxing and more.
How come a lot of sports stars do not plan for life after playing? A lot of these folks made millions and millions of dollars so how come they did not invest or start a new business that might make money from after their playing days are over? It only makes sense to me. But the problem is a lot of ex players cannot walk away. So they want to make a comeback.
The latest ex player who wants to make a comeback is NBA player Micheal Findley who retired in 2010. Findley made millions of dollars playing is 39 years old is currently working in the Dallas Mavericks front office, so why does he want to comeback or try to comeback?
This year Rasheed Wallace came out or retirement is playing with the Knicks. Word is Antonio McDyess might want to make a comeback in the NBA. In boxing, 50 year year old Evander Holyfield refuses to retire and walk away from boxing.
The late Hector “Macho” Camacho was thinking about a comeback to boxing before he died at age 50. Boxer Bernard Hopkins refuses to walk away from fighting even when he is making money as a promoter. He is 48. To me this is crazy readers. These players and fighters need to realize that father time shows no mercy.
Guys like Shaq and Charles Barkley and ex NBA player Jr. Bridgeman and Venus and Serena Williams, David Robinson, Kevin Johnson Tori Hunter and my friend Shawn Kemp here in Seattle and many other current and ex sports stars have made plans for life after playing.
Findley needs to give up the dream of playing again and move on with his life. We will see what happens. Gordon Curvey
