Fans of our dearly departed Seattle Sonics held a well attended rally in downtown Seattle the other day and it made me very very happy as a fan who really really misses our NBA team. For thousands of Sonic fans it was a chance to once again put on their Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp jerseys and tell the world that we want the NBA to return to our city.
I did not make it to the rally because I was busy producing the next “Music Inner City TV” program but I listened to it on sports radio 710 ESPN. And the sound of the crowd cheering for the return of the Sonics made me very happy. Because seeing the OKC Thunder in the NBA Finals (the team that left Seattle after 41 years) has made me very depressed as a sports fan. Anyone who is a Sonic fan is hurt to see our former team in the freakin Finals.
The rally was attended by former Sonic stars and the man who is putting up millions of dollars to help build a top of the line state of the art arena here in Seattle, Chris Hansen. The man is putting up huge dollars to bring a NBA back to Seattle because he misses the Sonics and the NBA like I do and like all Sonics fans do.
We will keep you updated right here on “Sports Inner City Online” on the return of the NBA to Seattle and the return of the Seattle Sonics. Gordon Curvey
