Basketball is a passion for me. I just love the sport. I can watch a high school game, college game, NBA game and even a game from overseas. I am constantly watching NBA-TV all year long keeping up with the NBA.
When our Seattle Sonics left town in 2008 it was like a family member died. I covered the Sonics for my media for 15 years. The Sonics allowed me to go to shootarounds in the morning before the game at night. I interviewed some of the biggest stars in basketball over the years like Phil Jackson, Shaq, Ishiah Thomas, Dirk, C-Webb, Barkley, Alonzo Morning and many many more including MJ!
So for more than four years their has been no shootarounds at the Key here in Seattle. I miss that very very much. I can’t listen to the voice of the Sonics Kevin Calabro saying “”He’s on the magic carpet!’ after a tremendous dunk by a Sonic player. No more rally in alley before a playoff game. I miss our Seattle Sonics!
When the owner of the Sonics Mr. Starbucks Howard Schultz sold our team to Clay Bennett I said no big deal because Bennett told us the team will stay in Seattle while holding up a Sonics jersey. Well as we know HE LIED!!!!!!!!! And he moved our Sonics to a dust town Oklahoma City. And all we have now are memories of our Sonics. It hurts readers!
Besides the Thunder, the only other exciting thing to do in OKC is watching Charlie paint his house on Oakmount St. and OKC residents can gather to watch the paint dry!! Or watching a tumbleweed roll down a street and old Martha will say to her husband “Hey dear that is the biggest darn tumbleweed I have ever seen in town honey.!!” Now that’s excitement!!
So as we know led by Kevin Durant, the Thunder and the Heat are in the NBA Finals and we in Seattle just do not know how to handle it. Of course we can sit and think how it would be if the team was still in Seattle and WE are in the Finals.
But of course that is not going on so myself as a NBA fan is going to hope LeBron and D-Wade sweeps by the Thunder BUT readers that will not happen. Might of fact their is a good chance that the OKC Thunder will because the new NBA champs. As a sports fan here in Seattle watching the Thunder fans going crazy after winning a NBA title it will be like someone hitting me in the head with a freakin hammer. IT WILL HURT BIG TIME!
Finally, I have to give a shout out to the fans of OKC. The really support their team. Just like Sac-town and P-Town, it is the only pro team in town. I am not hating on the OKC fans. I will always hate against Howard Schultz for selling the team to Bennett and will always hate Bennett for LYING to us Sonic fans. So as I end I am sure all Sonics fans will join me in saying GO HEAT!!!!!! Gordon Curvey
