Will New Rules For Hits Hurt The NFL?

ARTICLE FROM forbes.com (Full story click here)

The question is this sports fans. Will the recent big fines by the NFL hurt the NFL? I think it will because now players will be afraid to really hit another player.

Let’s face it, Many of us football fans want to see big hits on the field. I know I do. With the big fines recently made to a few players, it hurts me as a NFL fan.

James Harrison thought about ending his career because of being so upset. I don’t blame him. Of course Harrison was not about to walk away from all the cash he is making. Let’s be real!! But I don’t blame him for being upset.

A lot of retired NFL players like the great Dion Sanders says LET THE PLAYERS PLAY FOOTBALL!! It is a very physical game. Yes once in awhile a player will lay a helmet to helmet. If so, then he should be fined. But other than that, let the players play.

The NFL is full of huge physical men who get paid millions of dollars to hit folks on the other team so please let the players play NFL football. This is why a lot of fans say the NFL has turned into the NO FUN LEAGUE!!

Larry Brown Says Iverson Should Be Treated Better

ARTICLE FROM fanhouse.com (Full story click here)

Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown, head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats said Allen Iverson should be treated much better than what he is being treated right now.

Iverson is thinking about taking a $2 million offer from a team in Turkey. A.I. is 35 years old and wants to play and finish his career in the NBA.

But NBA teams do not want to offer Iverson a try out. This is WRONG!! Allen can still play and can help a team win a championship.

The problem is A.I. has started all his career. So the question is can he be on a team and come off the bench? This is why I think teams are afraid of Iverson.

You cannot tell me Iverson can’t help Miami or Boston or Orlando or even the Lakers. He can help those teams and others.

If Steve Nash and Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd and others can still play at 35 and help a team how come Iverson can’t?

As a tremendous fan of Allen Iverson, I agree with Coach Brown. He should not end his career with a team in far away Turkey. That just should not happen. Period. I hope a NBA team will sign Iverson and I hope A.I. can drop his ego and accept coming off the bench.      Gordon Curvey

Randy Moss Is Traded To The Vikings

ARTICLE FROM espn.com (Full story click here)

Future Hall of Famer Randy Moss is headed back to the Minnesota Vikings after being traded from New England in a blockbuster trade.

Moss is a great great player and my honest player New England is going to miss him big time and person who will miss him the most is Tom Brady.

He has not been in a lot of trouble. He likes to fish and owns a team in NASCAR Truck Series and so basically he is good dude.

Randy just wants to win. Period. He is going to help Brett and the Vikings big time. The fans in the Boston area should be pissed after the trade of Moss. I would be.

I don’t want to see Brady and New England play now that Moss is gone. You always have a chance to see a great play by Moss when he is on the field. So I will be happy to watch Vikings game now.

Two of the greatest players in the history of the NFL we be on the same team. Let’s see what’s happens sports fans!    Gordon Curvey

Lack Of Diversity On Sports Radio In Seattle/Part 2

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

This is Part 2 of my series of stories regarding local sports radio stations in Seattle, Washington. Two stations who cover sports in Seattle, have a grand total of ZERO African Americans on the air on a regular basis. The stations are sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN.

KJR has been on the air for more than 19 years and 710 ESPN has been on the air for about two years in the Seattle/Tacoma radio market. Again, no African Americans have been on the air with his or hers own program during the time these stations have been on the air. This is wrong readers.

When African Americans and people of color dominate the three major sports (football, basketball and baseball) it is wrong in my strong opinion to have a completely all white staffs on the two local sports stations. I am TIRED of hearing white guys interviewing African Americans and people of color on the air who they cannot relate to what so ever!!!

ONLY my friend Rick Dupree has been on the air. But he was only a semi-regular. He was fired and RE-HIRED again only to leave KJR because he saw no hope for himself to have his own regular program. So he left.

The current on air staff on KJR is Mitch Levy, Dave “Softy” Mahler, Ian Furness and Elise Woodward with Dick Fain on the weekend. Recently a former host on KJR, Jeff Aaron was brought back to have his own program on the weekends.

Also recently, “Hot Shot” Scott was hired to be on the air on KJR with the “The Gasman” during the weekdays to replace the departed “The Groz”. Scott was a DJ on sister station KUBE93.

On 710 ESPN it is Mike Salk, Brock Huard, “The Groz” Dave Grosby and Kevin Calabro and Jim Moore on the air. All the hosts on 710 ESPN and KJR are white. But to make matters worse, as far as I know, their are no African Americans or people of color in sales, as producers and for sure in management. This is wrong.

Seattle is a city known for it’s diversity. But in sports radio here in Seattle, diversity is a no show. The question is why? Well the answer is called the “ole boy network” in radio,TV and radio plus newspapers where whites help other whites to obtain employment while African Americans and people of color are left on the sidelines.

As I said earlier, “Hot Shot” Scott and Jeff Aaron was recently hired on KJR. Both of whom had ties to KJR already with Scott as a dj on sister station KUBE93 and Aaron as a former employee with KJR. For sure, the “ole boy network” is the reason both of them were hired.

On 710 ESPN, Brock Huard had ZERO radio experience but was hired. Jim Moore is a newspaper man who worked for the P.I. which is no longer around. Mike Salk came from Boston. Kevin Calabro and “The Groz” Grosby I have no problem with. And I have no problem with Dick Fain and Elise Woodward on KJR. Others, I have a problem with.

Recently I sent KJR host Dave Malher a text after a recent Husky football game in which QB Jake Locker did not have a good game. Mahler had given me his number months earlier.

Mahler sent me a return text calling me a “asshole” and “a nut job psycho” “I am as crazy as I am stupid” other very negative names. One text Mahler sent had to be modified by my phone company and removed!! It was wrong for Mahler to call me these derogatory names.

What is going on in sports radio here in Seattle is a total lack of inclusion of African Americans and people of color on a regular basis on ESPN 710 and KJR. The problem is management at the two stations seem not to care about this problem.

The management at KJR flat out LIED to African American leadership about hiring and diversity. FLAT OUT LIED. It is time for a chance at KJR and 710 ESPN. The hosts don’t care, the producers don’t care, and for sure management does not care. But one thing for sure………I care!!!!!

Racism is alive and well because all you have to do is look at 710 ESPN and sportsradio KJR here in Seattle. Dave Mahler’s texts to me shows for sure that there is work to be done.

PS. Local newspaper, The Seattle Times has a sports editor who refuses to allow his writers to do a story on what I am writing about here. Why? Because he has writers at the Times like Jerry Brewer (who is African American) and Steve Kelly that are “in bed” with KJR. They are on the air as guests on the station. And Jim Moore who writes for the Seattle PI website, also refuses to write about this because he is on the air on 710 ESPN.

Carmelo Anthony Wants Out Of Denver

ARTICLE FROM huffingtonpost.com (Full story click here)

Carmelo Anthony wants out of Denver. The question is why readers? Is he trying to pull a LeBron James? I am getting a little tired of pro athletes.

Anthony is living out his dream playing in the NBA. How many kids get to dream about playing in the NBA and end up their as a adult?

And Anthony is making MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars playing basketball. He gets to have a big house, drive nice cars and then marry a beautiful lady. He is set for life.

Now he wants to demand a trade to a so called better team. Who in the hell does Carmelo think he is readers? He needs to chill out, shut up and play for the Nuggets under his contract runs out and THEN ask for a trade.

Is Denver that bad of a team? Are they that old? I don’t think so. To me it is very arrogent on Anthony’s part to ask for a trade. So now what is going to happen. Are superstar players on so called “bad” going to demand trades? I hope not readers.

Again I have a problem with James and him bolting the Cavs and I have a big problem with Carmelo demanding a trade. Like I said, he needs to be quiet and play for the Nuggets and when his contract is up, then leave. This is “One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey
