S.I.C Online At Mariners Sonics Tribute And A Plus Basketball Event

I had a great weekend the last two weeks doing what I love to do. Covering sports events for “Sports Inner City Online” and our sister TV show “Music Inner City TV” and our sister website “Music Inner City News Magazine” at www.musicinnercity.com

Myself and camera person D-Hustle were on the grind at the two events for charity. The charity is the A-Plus Youth Program out of Rainier Vista Boys And Girls Club here in Seattle.

The first one was at the Foxs Bar And Grill and the second was at Key Arena for the basketball game. We obtained a lot of interviews with  current NBA and players and rookies like Spencer Hawes, Klay Thompson, Nolen Smith and many more.

Then the next day we headed down to the former home of our departed Seattle Sonics, Key Arena for the A Plus game. I had a smileon my face when I entered the Key and when I left the Key because I was going to see some NBA type basketball back in Seattle.

Again we obtained interviews with “The Reign Man” Shawn Kemp, (pic above)  Montell Webster, Micheal Beasley and others. It was a great time. Shout out to the chairman of A Plus Tavio Hopson for his support.

Then this past weekend I went to the home of the Seattle Mariners Safeco Field where the Mariners had a tribute to our departed Seattle Sonics. It was great seeing a lot of the former Sonics.

We were lucky enough to interview former Sonics like Spencer Haywood, “Mr. Sonic” and current Portland head coach Nate McMillan, James Donaldson, Jack Sikma, Slick Watts, “The Glove” Gary Payton (pic above)and Detlef Schrempf. Big thanks to the Seattle Mariners for the event and for there support.

We will be trying to obtain more and more sports interviews for you the readers of “Sports Inner City Online” The audio of the interviews will be up soon to listen via “Sports Inner City Radio” podcasts. Details soon!    Gordon Curvey

Part 3/Chone Figgins Made “Whipping Boy” By Seattle Sports Radio

“One Man’s Opinion” By Gordon Curvey

I am getting sick and tired of the negative talk on local sports radio here in Seattle regarding Mariner Chone Figgins. It has got out of hand. It really has.

He is taking the blame for the Mariners terrible record. It is like he is the only player on the field. It is terrible and yes racist in my opinion.

Let me make one thing clear. Chone Figgins is getting paid a lot of money to produce on the field. He is not producing what so ever for the Seattle Mariners. Again, he is not producing. But if you listen to 710 ESPN and sports radio KJR here in Seattle, he is the MAIN reason the Mariners are a pathetic team again this year.

YES when ever I can I am going to let the readers here on “Sports Inner City Online” know that here in Seattle on sports radio their are ZERO African Americans on the air on a regular basis. ZERO!! On KJR they have been on the air for twenty years and in those twenty years they have NEVER had a black man on the air with his or her’s own program. 710 ESPN started a few years ago and yes……they have zero black folks on the air with his or her’s own program.

It is the “good ole boy network” in hiring when it comes to jobs on sports radio in Seattle. So because of that, African Americans like Chone Figgins is called a “common criminal” over the air by motor mouth host Dave “Softy” Mahler”

KJR management tried to cover his comment up BUT Mahler admitted to me he made the comment. That comment by Mahler was the worst comment I have heard on a black person on sports radio. It is worst than the word “thug”. A word white hosts use ONLY on African Americans and people of color. It is a “code” word instead of the “N” word readers.

Here is a point readers. Chone Figgins IS A LEAD OFF HITTER!!! He HAS NOT hit lead off since he has been with the Mariners. When he was with the Angels, HE WAS A LEAD OFF HITTER!!! He was a good lead off  hitter with the Angels.

BUT because of the icon Ichiro, he has not hit lead off with the Mariners. A few weeks ago, the Mariners manager sat Ichiro down for a game or so. Guess who hit lead off? It was Chone Figgins. One game he went 2 for 4. And Mariner announcers like Dave Sims said he look relaxed at the plate hitting where is used to hitting, LEAD OFF.

But the local sports media in this town is not bringing up this point like they should. But I am. CHONE FIGGINS IS A LEAD OFF HITTER!! Hell why not move Ichiro down in the lineup NOW! Try Figgins at lead off for awhile and let’s see how he does.

Local sports radio hosts say the Mariners have tried everything. NO THEY HAVE NOT!! Bat Figgins in the lead off position. Why not right now?

Micheal Vick Speaks In D.C. About Dogfighting

ARTICLE FROM nfl.com (Full story click here)

One thing for sure sports fans, since Philadelphia Eagles QB Micheal Vick has been out of jail for dogfighting he has done a GREAT job in speaking out about what he did to dogs.

He has gone to schools and community centers to speak and now he has gone to Washington D.C. to speak out against dogfighting. This is great on Vick’s part.

Of course on sports radio stations like 710 ESPN and KJR here in Seattle, they said NOTHING about Vick in D.C BUT let Vick do something wrong he would blasted all day and all night!!

This is why a sports site like “Sports Inner City Online” is needed on the Internet. To try to bring you the readers more positive stories on African Americans and people of color in the sports world. Of course we will have a few negative stories but mostly positive.

Vick is trying to become a role model for young kids. A fella who did wrong and now is doing right. Gordon Curvey

Jeter Wrong For Not Showing Up For All-Star Game

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Derek Jeter is a sports hero. Someone kids can look up to as a role model and has been able to walk on water his entire career as a New York Yankee.

Lately baseball fans have noticed a decline in his play at the plate and in the field. Well after all he is 37 years old. Jeter is not used to negative talk in New York about him.

But now he is taking heat for not showing up for the baseball All-Star game in Phoenix. He blamed it on being tired mentally after getting his 3,000 hit and other reasons.

I am sorry I am not buying it from Jeter. Not at all. He was voted on the team by the fans and he should have shown up. PERIOD.

Derek Jeter is getting paid MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars. He dates the hottest ladies, drives the best cars and is building a mega-house right now that is worth millions.

Jeter has PLENTY of time during the doggone off season to relax. It burns me up that he used excuses for not showing up for the All-Star game. Derek Jeter does not have a excuse. He let baseball fans down who wanted to celebrate with him the 3,000 hits. Jeter was wrong.
