“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey
As a African American I was tremendously upset at listening to 710ESPN and sportsradio KJR here in Seattle in the unfair treatment of Seattle Mariner outfielder Milton Bradley.
Bradley left the team the other day after taking call third strikes on two plate appearances. The Mariners manager then took him out the game.
Milton has recently asked the Mariners for help in dealing with something in his life. The Mariners have agreed to help him. Which is great. Why? Because I think Milton Bradley needs help. This is obvious to anyone who knows the history of him.
He has been on eight teams in his career so far. I think for the first time, Bradley has reached out for help. Now we as fans do not know what the problems are. It could be depression. A drinking problem or maybe a family member he is tight with has died or is dying. It could be a relationship problem. And finally it could be he is reaching out to get help with his temper. We do not know what he asked the Mariners to help him with.
On 710ESPN and sportsradio KJR whose on air staff is all white, the spent all day and night blasting Bradley until the cows came home. And so did the callers. It was sad and depressing folks to hear sports jocks and callers beat up on Bradley.
These guys have zero compassion for Bradley. None. They continued to dwell on the negative concerning Bradley. Even after the word came out that Bradley asked the Mariners for help, the host and callers continued blasting Bradley.
Well Sports Inner City Online will have Bradley’s back and give him support. We will not blast him like the local sports radio hosts in Seattle and not blast him like most of the callers on sports radio.
Yes I wrote a negative piece on Milton a few months back saying I think he needs to chill out with the negative comments in the media. But in reality it was to support Bradley because I know the media in Seattle will make his comments more than what they really are.
Yes Bradley has had problem. We as sports fans know that. But one thing is for sure. Milton Bradley is reaching out for help for what ever problem he has. And that takes a man to do that. I think we should stand behind Milton and wish him the best. Again, we at “Sports Inner City Online” and “Music Inner City News Magazine” (www.musicinnercity.com) will stand behind Milton and hope he can get the help he wants.
P.S. I want to send a shout out to Looney of “Fox Sports Radio” who is fair to minority folks over the air. I like his viewpoints on sports much more than the host of the program Looney is on, “J.T. The Brick”
