“One Man’s Opinion
” by Gordon Curvey
I just saw a speech by the Chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club, Billy Payne. In his speech he decided to blast Tiger Woods for some reason.
Among other negative things, he said Woods disappointed his fans and our kids and grand kids. And he went on to say other negative things about Tiger’s behavior that of course we all know about.
I feel Billy Payne has his doggone nerves to put Tiger on blast. When he leads a business that has until recently EXCLUDED AFRICAN AMERICANS and not only that right now has ZERO ladies on the their board. No ladies in sight!!! Oh yeah, Tiger is the ONLY African American on the tour so that means the only African American playing in the Masters.
So how in the hell can Billy Payne get on his high horse and talk about Woods private life. What Payne should have talked about is the return of Tiger Woods to the PGA and how it is going to help EVERYONE involved with the Masters and the PGA as a whole in a VERY POSITIVE WAY.
That means MORE MONEY, MORE CASH FOR EVERYONE!!!!
Truth be told, Payne looked liked a bigot standing up there with his green jacket on, downgrading Woods. It was flat out WRONG on Billy Payne’s part.
I don’t give a damn about Tiger Woods love life of the golf course. And Billy Payne should feel the same way. If he felt this way about Tiger like he did it wrongly in his press conference. HE SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT TO HIMSELF. And just talk about Tiger’s return to the PGA and playing in the Masters AND THAT IT’S!!
Billy Payne should have kept his personal feelings about Tiger Woods TO HIMSELF. Again he is representing a organization that’s history is filled with a history of exclusion and not inclusion. Billy Payne needs to think before his runs his mouth and look in the mirror at himself and the organization he leads.

Baseball legend and a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame, Hank Aaron recently said the Atlanta Braves young 21 year old rookie Jason Heyward will do wonders for the “ills” of baseball.
What Hank means is this. As I have talked about on “Sports Inner City Online” baseball in my opinion does a terrible terrible terrible job of reaching into the African American community to get young kids interested in playing baseball.
He thinks young Heyward might help to get young kids in the ATL area to play more baseball and he thinks that is a very good thing. I do too.
The other day I heard a former Seattle Mariner on sports radio KJR and they constantly discussed his baseball business for youth which is way out in the surburbs. Far away from where inner city kids are located. This does not help get young African American kids interested in baseball. Of course with the make up of KJR’s staff, this issue was not brought up.
I know players like Torii Hunter and CeCe Sabathia and new Mariner Chone Figgins like to reach back into the inner city and help kids get interested in playing baseball. I hope Hank Aaron is correct about the very talented Jason Hayward.

We want to make this a site to go to on the Internet for information and issues concerning people of color in the sports world.
Sites like this is badly needed because of the makeup of sports radio in America and their needs to be stories told from the “other point of view” sort of speak. Hope to hear from you with your ideas

As a basketball junky and a fan of the departed Seattle Sonics since I was 12 or 13, I am very happy to see the late Dennis Johnson FINALLY get into the basketball Hall Of Fame. He should have been their already.
D.J. was a member of the 1979 World Championship here in Seattle with the Sonics. That was a great team with D.J, “Downtown” Fred Brown, “The Wizard” Gus Williams, Lonnie Shelton, Jack Sikma and “J.J.” John Johnson and the team coached my another Hall Of Famer, Lenny Wilkens.
To bad he is not hear to enjoy being elected. Also happy to see the “Mailman” Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen get in the HOF too. Some people say Malone is the best power forward in the history of the game alone with future HOF member Tim Duncan.
Cynthia Cooper was also elected. Cooper was a female BALLER!!! In my opinion she is up there with Sheryl Miller as far as great female basketball players.
Please read the above article for information on the rest of the folks elected for this years class of the Basketball HOF. Congrates to everyone!!

If you are a sports fan you know by now that future Hall Of Fame QB Donovan McNabb was traded from the Eagles to the Redskins. I don’t understand why?
McNabb brought the Redskins to five division titles, one Super Bowl and is the leader in five categories for the Eagles. Don’t understand the move at all.
Don’t understand why stupid Philly fans constantly blasted McNabb on sports radio as a guy could not get the job done. He was Philadelphia’s favorite “whipping boy”.
Mark my words this trade will come back to hurt the Eagles. The Redskins have a new veteren head coach, a running game, good defense, etc. They will surprise a lot of folks next season. Just watch.
So now the Eagles will have Kevin Kolb or Mick Vick at QB. Well let me say this about that. I listened to WIP in Philly last night and they said Kolb will be the starter. Even the head coach said Kolb is the starter.
Wait a minute. In my opinion it should be a battle at pre-season games to see if Kolb or Vick will be the starter. What if Mike Vick totally out plays Kolb in pre-season games? Is Kolb still the starter? Something ain’t right there folks.
So good luck to McNabb in Washington. He did all he could in Philly. Maybe a change is good for everyone.

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey
Today I was watching TV relaxing and watching the NCAA basketball games and to see who our Washington Huskies will play in the next round. I grabbed my remote to see what is on other channels and and turned on ESPN and BAM!! the headlines “Tiger Woods interview to be shown every 20 min” I was shocked.
I did not know Woods would do a interview this quick and with ESPN. I thought he would go on Oprah or Dr. Phil or even Larry King. But he did it with ESPN.
I was very glad to see Tiger open up a little on his mistakes as a father, a husband and a role model to millions of kids who looked up to him.
He said he has much more work to do. And I agree with that. I will be watching like millions and millions of others when he plays the Masters.
Finally I hope sports radio jocks like “J.T. The Brick” on Fox Sports Radio stop blasting Woods like they are a angel of god and don’t have skeletons in their closet. Let’s just watch Woods play again and I hope he wins like he used too and what happens between Tiger and his wife is his business.
Like many others, the ONLY time I watch golf is when Tiger Woods is playing.
