Aaron Says Heyward Will Help The “Ills” Or Problems In Baseball

ARTICLE FROM ktla.com (Full story click here)

Baseball legend and a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame, Hank Aaron recently said the Atlanta Braves young 21 year old rookie Jason Heyward will do wonders for the “ills” of baseball.

What Hank means is this. As I have talked about on “Sports Inner City Online” baseball in my opinion does a terrible terrible terrible job of reaching into the African American community to get young kids interested in playing baseball.

He thinks young Heyward might help to get young kids in the ATL area to play more baseball and he thinks that is a very good thing. I do too.

The other day I heard a former Seattle Mariner on sports radio KJR and they constantly discussed his baseball business for youth which is way out in the surburbs. Far away from where inner city kids are located. This does not help get young African American kids interested in baseball. Of course with the make up of KJR’s staff, this issue was not brought up.

I know players like Torii Hunter and CeCe Sabathia and new Mariner Chone Figgins like to reach back into the inner city and help kids get interested in playing baseball. I hope Hank Aaron is correct about the very talented Jason Hayward.

We want to make this a site to go to on the Internet for information and issues concerning people of color in the sports world.

Sites like this is badly needed because of the makeup of sports radio in America and their needs to be stories told from the “other point of view” sort of speak. Hope to hear from you with your ideas
