Is It A Mistake For The Laker To Hire D’Antoni?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

If you know me you know I am a basketball junky. I love the game. Even when the Sonics were here in Seattle, I always checked to see what the Los Angeles Lakers were doing. Why? Because let’s face it, the Lakers and Celtics have won hella titles over the years so in reality you really cannot help but to follow the teams.

Like a Hollywood drama, there is always something going on with the Lakers. This year no difference. They started the year 1-4 under head coach Mike Brown and then BAM! Brown is fired. Ex Sonic coach Bernie Bickerstaff has taken over the team until new coach Mike D’Antoni takes over. We all thought of course that NBA legend and Hall of Fame member Phil Jackson was going to take over.  WRONG!!

The new coach of the Lakers is D’Antoni. He is a fan of runnin and gunnin basketball. Grab the board and run and shoot the rock somettimes in 7 to 10 seconds. This might be the return of “Showtime” in L.A. If you are too young to remember, “Showtime” was led by Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabber, James Worthy, Byron Scott and others.

The problem was everyone thought Jackson was going to be the head coach again. And we were shocked that he was passed over for D’Antoni but we were not the only one who was shocked. Jackson was shocked too! He thought he had a set deadline to make up his mind and if he decided to take the job it was his job. But Phil got a call from Laker management to say thanks but no thanks Phil.

How can this happen to a basketball legend who has so many rings he has ran out of fingers to wear them. This is unreal readers. So we will see what happens with the Lakers when D’Antoni takes over and intalls his run and gun offense. I am sure it will be very exciting to watch. Let’s see what happens with the Mike D’ Antoni led Lakers. This is a big ole soap opera for real!!

Republican Party And Sports Radio In Seattle..What Is The Difference?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Mike D’ Antoni will be the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. I think this is a terrible move. More of my thoughts later today.

As we all know last week President Barack Obama was re-elected to a second term as our President of the United States. And by the way I am a supporter of the President. I felt he needed a second term to make up from the mess that President George W. Bush left us in.

And why did President Obama basically won by a landslide last week? It is because  Gov. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan was running for a Republican Party that did little outreach into the African American community, the  Latino community, the Asian community, the East African community and more. The only outreach the Republican Party did was to the white community of America. This is just a fact readers. 93% of African Americans voted for President Obama and 89% voted for Romney. And it was in the 70’s of Latinos and Asians who voted for the President.

When you saw a Romney/Ryan event you saw almost ZERO black faces or people of color. You can say the same for sports radio here in Seattle with 710 ESPN and Sportsradio KJR. Together they have a grand total of ZERO African Americans on the air on a regular basis.

KJR has been on the air for more than twenty years and the ONLY African American that has been on the air on a “regular” basis is Rick Dupree who by the way  was hired, fired, brought back and left after he saw no hope for himself to have his own program. It has been just like the Republican Party in sports radio here in Seattle….the good ole boy network of whites only. Guys with nicknames like “Softy” and “Puck” and “Paper Sheet” and “Mitchy The Kid” and “Gas” and “Sandy” etc.

Readers when you watched a event by President Obama you saw a MELTING POT of faces in the crowd. Whites, African Americans, Asians, Africans, Latinos and more. When you saw a Republican events it was almost 100% white.  This does not reflect America. The same goes for sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN here in Seattle. The all white on air staff does not reflect the fields and courts where basketball and football and baseball is being played. What makes it worse is that management of the two sports radio stations seem not to care about diversity, just like the Republican Party here in the U.S. If a guy or gal goes on vacation or misses a day, he or she is replaced by ANOTHER white person.

I have also tried to talk to a fella named Don Shelton who runs the sports dept. with the Seattle Times newspaper here in town about a possible story about sports radio in town. But over the years he has REFUSED. Why? Because he has writers like Steve Kelly and Jerry Brewer who are in bed with KJR.  They are friends with on air staff at KJR and 710. It is a outrage that the Seattle Times refuses to do a story of FLAT OUT EXCLUSION OF AFRICAN AMERICANS on the two sports stations in Seattle. A OUTRAGE!!

So readers, what is the difference between the Republican Party and sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN here in Seattle? Nothing. They are both mainly all white males who refuse to look at America and it’s diversity. But in reality, the landslide win by President Obama should show sports radio here in Seattle and the Republican Party one thing….it is time for a change!

50 Cent And “Money” Mayweather In A Heated Beef And It’s Real And That Is For Sure!!

ARTICLE FROM yahoosports.com (Full story click here)

You know it is a real beef when Floyd “Money” Mayweather says that 50 Cent is a “male boxing groupie” Wow that’s deep folks and it just a small piece of a big time problem between Mayweather and 50 aka Curtis Jackson.

It started with a letter that was sent while Money was in jail. And now all hell has broke out between 50 and Mayweather and 50 has moved on to work in boxing promotions elsewhere. This is no made up beef for headline and publicity. This problem or beef between 50 and Money is real and it is kind of sad.

It is sad because it seemed Money and 50 real tight friends. In all of Mayweather’s last fights at the start and end of the fights you saw 50. They were friends and business partners. But no more.

You can say good things about Money and 50. Both have made MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars. Most if not all of Mayweather’s cash has been made in the ring. And 50 has made loads of cash of course as a rapper and he has made big time investments in companies like Vitamin Water and has G-Unit Records and clothing and has just started a new energy drink that has hit the stores.

50’s rap career has gone downhill but not his business investments. Unlike other rappers, he has a career outside of the recording studio and not only that he is a actor in Hollywood.

I have not kept track of Mayweather’s business ventures but I do know he is the worlds highest paid sports star. And he spends a lot of his money on big cars like Rolls and Bentley’s and has a tremendous home in Vegas. Money is not a problem for Money Mayweather for sure. Has he made business moves like 50? I don’t know.

So read the article above for more details on the 50 and Money Mayweather beef. The way it looks I think folks should try to keep the two apart from each other. Because something dangerous could happen. This beef is real and no small time problem.

As a boxing fan I am just upset that the Money vs Pacman Pacquio fight has not happened. It should have happened a few years ago. But I think Mayweather is afraid of Manny. He has used excuse after excuse in dodging Manny. He wants to protect his undefeated record. Let’s be real, we are know that is the truth!    Gordon Curvey

Baseball Needs To Get With The New Generation

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

I am going to keep it real folks. I did not watch one minute of the World Series that ended the other day with the Giants winning there second title in three years.

It just did not interest me as a sports fan. Baseball is living in the past. Baseball needs  to make some serious changes to the game to get young inner city youth to play baseball again like they did back in the day. Young inner city kids turn to basketball and  football around the age if 12 or 13.

Kids in the inner city think baseball is too slow and guess what folks? It is!! It is too damn slow. Something needs to be done to make the pitchers pitch in 20 seconds. And also something needs to be done to stop the batter from stepping out the batters box to mess with there batting gloves and kick the dirt around home plate etc.

Also the marketing of baseball is TERRIBLE!! Might of fact here is a question for everyone reading this. Name more than two baseball players who do commercials on TV? I  can’t name one other than Derek Jeter.

But there are plenty of basketball and football players who  are seen on TV commercials. Like Chareles Barkley, Shaq,  LeBron James, Micheal Jordan, Reggie Bush, Peyton and Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Derek Rose. Ray Lewis and more. No baseball players in sight. The question is why?

Kids in the inner city see their favorite players on TV and want to be like them. They don’t see any baseball players on TV to try to be like. It is a problem MLB management needs to look at and look at now.  This is not 1954. It is 2012. Baseball needs to get with the times readers. It is a new day and a new generation. Baseball IS NOT America’s pastime anymore.

Warren Moon Does Not Like Treatment Against Newton

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Here is story that fits for here at SIC. And the story is former University of Washington star and Hall Of Fame member Warren Moon thinks the treatment of Carolina Panther QB Can Newton is uneven compared to other white QB’s in the NFL. And I agree with Moon.

Here is a example. Motor mouth Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio blasted Newton last week because he is starting a new clothing line. He said Newton needs to work on being a better QB than wasting time in the world of business. Those comments by Colin is a example of how Cam is being treated by the media. And Colin interviewed two retired QB’s, Doug Flutie and Steve Young about Moon’s comments and if race fits in this situation or not.

Young and Flutie do not have a clue as to what is or is not racism. They do not understand what Moon though in the 70’s as black QB. Or what Cam is going though now. Don’t have a clue!!

Moon knows first hand how it is being a African American QB. He was called the N word and more when he was a young player here in Seattle in the 70’s with the UW. He went to Canada to play QB because it seemed teams did not want him to play QB in the NFL. Of course he finally crossed the border and had a great career. But he dealt with a lot of negativity. That is for sure.

Talk with Donavan McNabb or Randell Cunningham or Mike Vick or James Harris or other African American QB’s and they will tell you they had to preform much more harder than the white QB because they were being watched like a hawk by the fans and media.

Truth be told Cam is bringing a little of the negative press on himself with his actions during the games when he sits by himself with a towel over his head looking depressed and down after a Panther defeat as well as some of his comments in post game news conferences. He has to work on this. He has to remember he is the face of the Panthers.

I hope Warren can make a little time and talk via Skype or what ever and break down some knowledge on young Cam.. Have you noticed, Newton is wearing #1 just like guess who wore during his entire career………that’s right Warren Moon. Newton has BIG TIME skills. I love to watch him play every week. He is still very young and I hope his concerns with the play calling will be worked out because Once again I love to see the young brotha play.

We will keep you up to date with more news on the super talented Cam Newton in future editions of SIC.
