Goodell Welcomes African Americans On The Field/But Off?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Tonight I have my remote working overtime going between the NFL Draft and the NBA Playoffs. What a night for us sports fans.  So of course I am watching Roger Goodell bear hug all the draftees when they come on stage to welcome them to the NFL.

It is a great great day for all these young men. A dream come true to play in the NFL. Coming up playing pee-wee football as a start and now they are going to be instant millionaires playing against players who maybe was their idols growing up. Maybe they had their picture on their wall at home. It is great to see how happy these fellas are. Also it crazy to see how disappointed players are when they are sitting with there family and friends waiting to be hear their name.

But readers I am also bothered by this issue. This past off season their was a grand total of ZERO African Americans hired as a head coach or GM in the NFL. O out of 18 openings readers and this is a problem. Right now their are a grand total of TWO African American head coaches in the NFL. The Steelers and Vikings are the only teams in the NFL with a African American head coach. The is why?

Are their African Americans that have served their dues in college and the NFL? YES! So what is going on folks? Heck this off season a coach was hired to be a head coach from the freakin CFL aka Canadian Football League. Again what is going on? Something is wrong. Goodell said he is going to look into this problem just like Major League Baseball said they will look into the problem of why the amount of African American players have went downhill big time.

So as I watch this these young fellas getting drafted to play football in the NFL on the field, something wrong is going is going on in the front office and sidelines. Let’s see what Goodell will do about this problem.

My Thoughts On Jason Collins Being Gay

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

I have took my time to give my feelings and thoughts about NBA player Jason Collins saying he is gay. Of course this has been a huge story. The first current player of a pro to say he is gay is a huge story. For sure it is. Since the announcement Collins is all over the place doing interviews.

Information has come out that his twin brother did NOT even know his brother was gay. AND check this out. Jason had a girlfriend for EIGHT YEARS!! And she did not know he was gay and that she is SHOCKED!! SAY WHAT???? Man this is CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY!

Readers I am sorry. I have a problem. If I was a player in the NBA I would have a problem playing with a gay player. I am sorry I would have a problem with it. This is me. And I agree with ESPN reporter Chris Brossard who has a problem with the Collins situation. Chris said his feelings and the company he works for came out with a sort of statement saying they are sorry for Chris’s comments. It was a “lame” statement by ESPN.

In my opinion god wanted a man to be with a lady. God wanted a man to make love to lady. I have a big time problem with men making love to men. I am sorry this is how I feel. I think it is a sickness. Of course I feel I feel a lady should NOT make love to another lady. Period! I also think it is a sickness. Again this is me readers. Feel free to disagree. This is America as the great Don King says all the time.

It is crazy reading and listening to comments from current NBA players and politicians and others supporting Collins coming out. Even Kobe Bryant supported Chris. A cat who a few years ago blasted gay folks. Now he is supportive. This is a bunch of crap!! I am sorry this is a show by Kobe and others. In my opinion Kobe feels the same way he feels a few years ago about the gay community. He is just trying to look good. And I feel others are doing the same. They feel like I do about Collins. How they feel when Collins walks into the shower with other players after the game or practice now?

LET’S KEEP IT REAL. I am keeping it real readers. I have a problem with a man making love to man. I think it is WRONG! It turns my tummy when I see a man walking with a man holding hands and kissing. It makes me want to throw up!! Real talk.

So let’s see if Collins get’s a job next season in the NBA. Let’s face it. In his long career he has been a shot blocker and a guy to come in make a lot of fouls because he has zero moves as a center. No low post game. That goes for his brother too. He is 7-0. And 7-0 are hard to find in the NBA. So let’s see what happens. Also let’s see who else will come out in the NBA or NFL or MLB. In my mind there are two players in the NBA who I think is gay. Of course I will not say who I feel is gay. But if you Goggle these two cats who I think is gay, you will see that there is plenty of rumors online on these two players. So let’s sit and see who is next.

Russell Westbrook Out With Knee Injury

ARTICLE FROM oknews.com (Full story click here)

OKC’s dynamic guard Russell Westbrook is out with a knee problem and will have operation in the next few days. It is HUGE news in the NBA. Westbrook is one of the top players in the NBA and is a very very exciting player. I love to watch this dude play.

Westbrook has not missed a game in high school, in college and in the NBA. That is amazing. But now he is out for awhile. So how will this effect the Thunder in the playoffs? Can they continue on without Russell? Can a MUCH older Derek Fisher step up? Fisher’s defense is TERRIBLE!! He is in the same boat as Steve Nash with the Lakers. 38 or 39 year old players who has lost not one step but two steps. This is a problem for OKC.

So we already know Russell will be out four to six weeks for sure. Can OKC hold out with RW? For sure “KD” Kevin Durant will have to score more points. Maybe 40 every game in the playoffs to make up for the loss of Westbrook. Guard Reggie Jackson has to step up. All of OKC has to step up because you can say Russell Westbrook is a superstar.

So let’s check out and see what happens to the Thunder without Westbrook. This should be very interesting sports fans.   Gordon Curvey

One Week To Go Hopefully For The Possible Return Of The Sonics

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

BREAKING NEWS: Chris Hansen has announced that his group will thrown in another $25 million in the pot to the Maloof Brothers to buy the Kings.

 More details click here.

Today as I write this blog it is one week for a possible vote for the return of the NBA for here in Seattle. The Board of Governor’s (ie NBA owners) will meet next Friday and we here in Seattle are on pins and needles for next week. I know I am.

Truth be told readers, I AM TIRED OF WAITING!! I want to know if the Sacramento Kings are moving here to Seattle in the fall to play as the Seattle Sonics for two years at the Key Arena while a brand new arena is built not to far away from where I stay here in Seattle. MANY of us here in the Seattle area are TIRED of all the back and forth news from Seattle and Sacramento. TIRED! TIRED! TIRED! I want to know what is going to happen? What is going to happen dammit!!

The Maloof Brothers gave a 5pm deadline for the Sacramento folks to match the Hansen-Ballmer money buy the Kings from the Maloofs. Word is today is the Kings group will match the Hansen-Ballmer offer. Of course we all know that would happen well at least I knew. So now it is MORE back and forth. This stuff is CRAZY!!

The Kings group continues to have moving pieces with folks leaving and coming. In my opinion this is not right and should be in our favor because the Hansen-Ballmer group has been very stable from the start. And has given the Maloof’s a $30 million non-refundable check for the Kings. And we hear that in the meetings in New York last week their presentation was again very very good.

Let’s hope everything will be in side of the court sort of speak so I can go to a celebration party at former Sonic star’s Shawn Kemp’s place Oskar’s and a drink a beer or two to celebrate the return of the Sonics to Seattle.

If you listen to Sacramento’s side they think the Kings are staying in their city. Of course we are not hearing from Chris Hansen or Steve Ballmer. We here Mayor Kevin Johnson in press conference after press conference. KJ has a personality and has played in the NBA for 13 years and knows a lot of the NBA owners. This makes me nervous readers.

So will the Kings move here to Seattle or will we get a promise of a expansion team in a few years? I don’t know. So I will be back with more news on the possible return of the NBA to Seattle right here on “Sports Inner City Online”.
