What Is Roughing The Passer And What Is Not In The NFL?

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

Our Seattle Seahawks get beat by the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 in K.C. Details soon right here on “Sports Inner City Online”

As a fan of the NFL, I am wondering about a few things readers. Here is a question. Is the QB part of the football team just like a running back or tight end or a defensive back or a center? The answer is a big fat YES.

It is a fact that most QB’s make more money than other players and yes their name is called much more during a game than other players but something really bothers me BIG TIME!

What bothers me is the protection of the QB when it comes to a penalty. What I mean is what is roughing the passer and what is not roughing the passer mainly in the NFL? I am confused. I have seen a QB tackled and thrown to the ground and no call by a ref. On the other side of the coin I have seen a QB tackled and thrown down and BAM a flag and roughing the passer is called. I do not understand this call.

I called in on “The Professor” John Clayton’s radio show on Seattle’s 710 ESPN and asked Clayton his opinion on the roughing the passer calls against QB’s in the NFL and John was confused too. So to me a person who I really respect Clayton’s opinion means something.

To me as a fan of the NFL, I feel a QB SHOULD NOT be protected like they are different than other football players on the freakin field!! They put their jock on and uniform on and shoulder pads on and helmet on JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS!!!! So why should they be treated like a king or something? I don’t get it.

Yes the fans want to see Russell Wilson here in Seattle and Payton Manning and Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers and Colin Kaepernick play every week. Fans pay good money to see their favorite QB play. But again I just feel they should not have a separate rule made just for a QB to protect them on the field. I just feel it is wrong. Have a opinion? Hit me via email at gcurvey@yahoo.com
