It is no surprise to me or should be to you that the NBA leads the three major sports in the U.S in diversity in the front office or management positions.
Of course the players in the NBA are almost 80% African American but we are talking about diversity in management and other positions off the court. Please read the the article above to get all the statistics.
But I have always said, the NBA BY FAR have shown that they care about diversity and for reaching out into the inner city to reach kids with a variety of programs. And the NBA players do a hell of lot in reaching back to give to needy kids and having camps etc.
When you see commercials involving sports stars, it is mostly NBA players. Players like Steve Nash, former player Charles Barkley, Dwight Howard, LeBron James etc.
The NBA has the most African American head coaches and general managers etc. Baseball and football are behind the NBA when it comes to diversity. This is a fact. Baseball for sure needs to do a MUCH better job in the field of diversity. In my opinion they are far far behind baseball and football.
Even though our team, the Seattle Sonics left town a few years ago to the dust bowl Oklahoma City (still can’t believe that happened to our city) I have to give a shout out to the NBA for leading the way and realizing America is a melting pot of races and people and the league believes in giving people chances, much more than other major sports.
