MLB Attendence Might Be In Trouble This Year

ARTICLE FROM sportsbusinessjournal.com (Full story click here)

P.S Well with the economy the way it is no surprise that MLB might take a huge dip in attendance this coming year at the gate.

The so-called “America’s Past Time” will see the stands with a few less fans this year. People j

Just cannot afford to pay for a family to go to game or a lot of games. Hot dogs, soda, popcorn, cotton ca

Cotton candy, peanuts and parking.

Some MLB teams ticket prices stayed the same and some teams lowered the prices for a ticket. But still fans are trying to pay their light bills and put food on the table etc. So going to game might really hurt their pockets. Already suffering because of the economy.

It will be VERY interesting to see how the attendance will be at the new stadiums in New York. Most likely, it will not hurt the Yankees and Mets too much because the fans in NY are crazy about baseball.

In other cities lke here in Seattle, even with the return of Ken Griffey Jr. We have to see how it goes during the season as far as attendence at MLB games. Gordon Curvey

Five Shots Out But Tiger Comes Back and Wins

ARTICLE FROM nbcsports.com (Full story click here)

P.S Tiger Woods is unreal. One of a kind. One of the greatest golfers of all time and when he is finished will be the greatest.

The most recent win proves my point. Tiger comes back from five shots back to win the Arnold Palmer event.

To see Tiger and “The King” Palmer greet each other after the win by Woods was great. The same thing happened at the same event last year when Tiger sank a long putt to win.

As soon as Tiger tied the event, I knew it was over. He was going to win.

Tiger intimidates players. This is a fact. You can see it in other players faces when Tiger is on the prowl. They get real real nervous. Because they know Tiger Woods is about one thing…….winning more trophies and becoming the player with the most wins of all time.

His late father starting Tiger as a little boy and trained him to be the greatest golfer of all time. Well Tiger is on his to be just that.

Tiger is back. Gordon Curvey

Where Are The African American Players In College Baseball?

READ A ARTICLE ON THIS TOPIC FROM sportsjournal.com (Full story click here)

P.S I was watching Comcast Sports Net the other day and they was showing a college baseball game between Oregon and Portland.

All the players except for one was white. Now if this was a basketball game between Oregon and Portland you would see more of a diversity of players.

The question is this. Where are the African American players in college baseball? The article above breaks it down as to what is really happening.

In my opinion the problems start after little league. African American young kids turn to basketball or football. The are in the gym shooting hoops or outside tossing a football. Why is this happening?

There are fields in African American neighborhoods to play baseball. But African American kids are not using them. The question is why? Why are young African American kids turning away from baseball after little league?

I think Major League Baseball is at fault for not doing nearly enough marketing of baseball towards African Americans. When you turn on TV, you see very few African Americans doing commercials for companies.

Lately I have seen only Jimmy Rollins and Derek Jeter doing commercials. But when it comes to the NBA, you see ex players Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing and Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett, Kobe, Dwight Howard, Al Harrington, LaBron James and more.

The other night Nate Robinson was on David Letterman. Where are the African American baseball players in the marketing of baseball?

When you turn on the NFL Network you see “Prime Time” Dion Sanders and many other African Americans out front hosting shows etc.

Young kids in the inner city are not seeing African American players on commercials when it comes to baseball.

On the new MLB Network, all I see is former Seattle Mariner Harold Reynolds out front on shows. That is it. The question is why readers?

MLB has the little RBI league in the inner cities. THAT IS NOT ENOUGH!! There needs to be more going on to reach inner city youth to keep them interested in baseball after little league.

Back in the day, you saw plenty of African Americans playing baseball in college and of course in the majors. This is not happening for some reason now. That is one of the reasons why the number of African Americans in the majors are way down.

It bothers me big time as a sports fan to see all white or mostly all white baseball teams. When you see much more diversity in basketball and football in college and of course in the pros.

I think it falls at the feet of MLB and also I think Ryan Howard and other MLB players should do more to get young inner city kids to keep playing baseball after the little league.

This problem needs to be discussed more on sports radio and in the newspapers and online.

In South America, young inner city kids are playing baseball. It used to be that way in the inner cities of America. What Happened? Gordon Curvey

What Is Going On Between Jamal Crawford and Don Nelson?

CHECK OUT THIS ARTICLE ON THE TOPIC FROM examaner.com (click here to read)

P.S I am trying to figure out what is going on between Golden State head coach Don Nelson and guard and Seattle resident Jamal Crawford.

His playing time has gone down to nothing. It has got so bad that Crawford asked Nelson not to play at all at a recent game.

It seems Nelson wants to play his younger players on the Warriors. But check this out. The fans who pay damn good money to come to see the home team win, should see the best players on the court and that includes Jamal Crawford.

JC is averaging 19 points a game this season and scored 50 points in a game. That good came a day after his good friend from Seattle, Brandon Roy scored 54 in a game with Portland.

Crawford also scored 50 points in a game while a member of the Knicks and Bulls. When Jamal gets hot, no one in the NBA can stop him.

It seems Nelson also has some type of problems with his players that become public. Going back to “C-Webb” Chris Webber, Baron Davis and now Jamal Crawford and more players that has not come out to us sports fans.

In my opinion Jamal Crawford should be playing. The fans want to see the best players so their team has a chance to win. The excuse Nelson is giving is terrible.

Crawford agent, Aaron Goodwin is upset and says his player should be playing. I agree with Goodwin. Yo Nellie, play Crawford. Let us fans from his home town here in Seattle and outside of Seattle watch one of the best scorers in the NBA play. Gordon Curvey

Washington Huskies Get Beat By Purdue To End Season

ARTICLE FROM seattlepi.com (Full story click here)

Well the season is over for the University of Washington Huskies after getting beat by Purdue in the NCAA tournament.

First of all, it was a shock for the Huskies to even get this far. No one expected the UW to win the Pac-10 title this year but they did under the direction of head coach Lorenzo Romar.

We here at Sports Inner City want to thank the Huskies for a great season and good luck in the future to Husky Jon Brockman. I have never met the young fella but it seems he is a real nice dude and had a great career and is leaving the UW as the leading rebounder in Husky history.

The Huskies have a real good future. With the return of guard Isiah Thomas and others, things are looking good next year for the Huskies.

I am still going for North Coraline to win it all this year. We will see. Gordon Curvey
