Angel Star Torii Hunter Is A Role Model For Inner City Kids

ARTICLE FROM toriihunterproject.com (Full story click here)

P.S. In the media, too many times when it comes to minorities in the sports world, we hear about negative stories. And not about positive ones and positive people like baseball player Torii Hunter of the Angels.

Hunter is on a mission to get young inner city youth interested in baseball. The amount of African Americans playing baseball in the majors is down to 8% to 9%. This is alarming.

A few teams in the majors have zero African Americans on the team. Here in Seattle, the only African American on the Mariners is Ken Griffey Jr.

It seems young African American kids turn to basketball and football at around 12 or 13. They see Kobe and LeBron and Shaq and KG and D-Wade and Barkley on commercials and NFL players like Reggie Bush and others too but see ZERO African Americans besides Derek Jeter and that’s it.

Torii and NY Yankee pitcher CeCe Sabithia are working hard to say baseball is a great sport. And go to schools and have camps for inner city kids.

We need more Torii Hunters. And maybe soon their will be more Ryan Howard, Orlando Hudson and PJ Upton starring in MLB. Gordon Curvey

Shaquille O’Neal To Wear #33 For The Cavs

ARTICLE FROM foxsports.com (Full story click here)

P.S Big Shaq…Shaquille O’Neal will wear #33 for his new team the Cleveland Cavaliers next season. Of course Shaq was #32 for the Lakers and Heat and Suns and Magic.

O’Neal was #33 ain college at LSU.

Shaq will team with LeBron James season with the Cavs to try and lead the Cavs for James first title and O’Neal’s 5th. O’Neal won three in a row for the Lakers and one with the Miami Heat.

Big Shaq will be a great addition to the Cavs next season I think. At 37, he can still be a force in the paint. He averaged almost 18 a game last season for the Suns.

This is not long term but hopefully it will help James get his first ring. Gordon Curvey

Lakers Win 15th NBA Title and Jackson Wins His 10th As A Coach

ARTCLE FROM dailynews.com/sports (Full story click here)

P.S. Shout out to the new champs for 08-09 in the NBA the Los Angeles Lakers after beating the Orlando Magic 99-86 in Orlando.

Superstar Kobe Bryant won MVP for the series. Bryant won his fourth title and the first without the big fella Shaquille O’Neal.

Also head coach Phil Jackson (Jackson and S.I.C’s G.C in pic) won his unreal 10th title. He won six titles with MJ and Pippin and the Chicago Bulls and this is his fourth with the Lakers. You can really say he has 11 rings total because he won a title as a player with the New York Knicks.

When the NBA season ends I quickly get real depressed as a sports fan because I am a die hard basketball fan and a die hard NBA fan. I have to wait for the season to start in the fall.

Since our Seattle Sonics are gone, the Lakers are “my team” and I follow our Seattle natives Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Jerry Terry, Spencer Hawes, Rodney Stuckey and others to see how they are doing.

Hopefully one day we here in Seattle can have a night for Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp to show them our respect for what they did for the sports fans of Seattle. Again congrats to the Los Angeles Lakers. G.C.

Anthony And Others Reach Out To The Nuggets Biggest Fan

ARTICLE FROM espn.com (Full story click here)

P.S. Big shout to Carmelo Anthony of the Denver Nuggets for stepping up and buying a $30,00o van for the fella who loves the NBA and the Nuggets.

So many times we here about minority sports stars in the police blotter. Or they are called “thugs” who have tattoos and braids or cornrows and hang out at nightclubs all night or hit there ladies or get caught with drugs etc.

But these kinds of positive stories are not talked about enough in the newspapers and on sports radio. Thank god for ESPN/ABC for showing this story. It almost had me shedding a tear. This is a great story.

This is what “Sports Inner City Online” is all about folks. Bringing you mostly positive stories about people of color in the sports world. Yes we will have a few negative stories but we will do our best to look for stories the majority media does not talk about enough.

This story is a example. Gordon Curvey

It Is The Los Angeles Lakers vs. The Orlando Magic In The NBA Finals

ARTICLE FROM msnbc.com (Full story click here)

P.S. Well we have the two in the NBA finals. The L.A. Lakers and the Orlando Magic after the Magic eliminated the Cavs 4-2.

Bottom line is the Magic had the better team. The Cavs had NO ONE to handle “Superman” Dwight Howard who flat out dominated the Cavs in the last game of the series with 40 and 14.

In my opinion LeBron James was weak when he walked off the court after the game, dressed and quickly left the arena in Orlando. That was unprofessional on his part. He should have been a man and “man up” and shake the Magic players hands and then dress and take questions from the media in the media room.

Last year, Kobe Bryant was eliminated by the Celtics in the finals but Kobe was a man and shook the Celtics hands and then took questions in the media room. James should have done the same.

But one thing for sure, if James is going to stay in Cleveland he needs some big time help. Here is a idea. How bout adding Rasheed Wallace and Ron Artest? Or for more scoring how bout Seattle native and Golden State Warrior, Jamal Crawford?

I am taking the Lakers in six. By the way, TNT coverage of the NBA playoffs with Ernie, Kenny and Barkley is by far the best pre and post game program on TV. They are a great team. They have brought in Reggie Miller to be on the team and he is real good also. Gordon Curvey
