Tired Of Hearing About Andrew Luck! Some Think Grif III Is Better

ARTICLE FROM profootballtalk.com (Full story click here)

It seems EVERY sports outlet is talking about Stanford QB being the best thing since sliced bread and a for sure #1 draft pick in NFL draft.

But check this out readers, IF he comes out who said Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III can’t be the #1 choice by a NFL team? I think he is better than Luck and many others feel the same way! But if you listen to sports radio hosts and watch ESPN etc it is Andrew Luck…Andrew Luck…Andrew Luck. I don’t think this is right and a put down of Grif III and what he did on the field at Baylor.

Many think Grif III is a better athlete than Luck, has a better arm than Luck, and don’t get it twisted folks, Just because Luck went to Stanford that does not mean he is more intelligent than Grif III. By the way Grif III is a very intelligent young man, just like Luck. Did you hear his speech win he won the Heisman? Cat ain’t no dummy! Real talk!!

Of course Grif III has not decided if he is coming back to Baylor or if he is tossing his hat in the ring for the NFL draft. We will have to see what happens. By the way Grif III Baylor Bears is playing our Washington Huskies in a few days in the Alomo Bowl.

Is Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III better than “The People’s Choice” Andrew Luck? I join others who say yes!!  Gordon Curvey

Washington Beat By The South Dakota State Jackrabbits…WHAT??

ARTICLE FROM heraldnet.com (Full story click here)

(Photo: Dean Rutz: Seattle Times) I watched a truly sad performance by my hometown University of Washington Huskies. They played the mighty South Dakota State Jackrabbits here in Seattle. Let me repeat, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. And they got their ass beat by SDS in their building.

A cat named Nate Walters looked like Jerry West against U-Dub. He dropped 34 points in a variety of ways on the court. Driving lay ins and pull up jumpers and was even dishing out his share of assists. He killed the Huskies. It was a terrible terrible performance by Washington.

I don’t care if young freshman star Tony Wroten Jr. got 23. Washington got blown out by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. I just cannot believe it readers. Again, the Huskies lost 92-73 against South Dakota State.

Washington was not ready to play. I don’t want to hear about the time of the game etc. Last time I checked, SDS had to play at that time too plus they were on the road. Yes the Huskies are young. But this is no excuse to get blown out 92-73 by South Dakota State. No excuse.

Now I have to shock some of you out their who follow me and my views. I have to put a little of the blame on Head Coach Lorenzo Romar of the Huskies. It seems his team just thought they can enter the arena, tie up their sneakers and just relax and beat SDS. It was up to Coach Romar to get his team ready to play just like SDS was ready to play. Period.

Another problem I see as a huge problem is young Wroten Jr. dominating the ball during games. Yes he is a very very talented young fella out of Seattle’s Garfield High School. The school that turned out Brandon Roy who recently retired from the NBA because of his bad knees.

But young Tony has to look for the open man much quicker to cut down on his turnovers. Since he is young we fans can give him some slack. It is up to Coach Romar to work on the problem of the lack of ball movement at times during games because the ball is always turns up in Wroten Jr. hands.

Later with all talk of Wroten Jr. and the NBA lottery if he comes out etc. I don’t want to hear that stuff. He is a Washington Husky right now and a freshman. It is up to Coach Romar and his staff to work with him as well as his teammates to make Tony AND his teammates better players and that will help the Huskies be a better team in the long run.

We as Husky fans hope the loss to Nate Walters and the mighty South Dakota State Jackrabbits is a HUGE wake up call. if not, we can forget a tournament appearance this year folks! Real talk.   Gordon Curvey

What Are The Mariners Waiting For? Sign Prince Fielder!

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

As I watch the Angels sign big Albert to a huge contract, as a sports fan here in Seattle I am saying to myself that the Seattle Mariners need to make the move and sign Prince Fielder!!

The Mariners have been on the downhill slide for years. Attendance is way down and the interest in the Mariners is way down in Seattle.

Most fans go to Safeco Field to be at a great stadium and buy hot dogs and popcorn and beer and cotton candy and talk about their families and how fast their dogs have grown etc. Heck sometimes you will see ladies knitting a sweater or something. Not giving a damn about the game on the field. This is for real readers.

Plus, going to a Mariner game is like going to a Republican National Convention. Hardly any African Americans or people of color in sight in the stands. I even heard Mariner broadcaster Dave Sims tell Seattle Times newspaper writer Steve Kelly on his podcast (www.seattletimes.com) just that. It bothers him that African Americans can care less about going to a Mariner game.

This could change if the Mariners would open up their pocket books and offer a big contract to free agent slugger Prince Fielder RIGHT NOW!!

Fielder is only 26 or 27 years old. He is a borderline superstar. The Mariners can have a superstar pticher in King Felix Hernandez and a superstar hitter in Fielder who can help sell tickets AND win more games.

Young kids in the inner city can see a African American star on the Mariners and might want to be like Prince just like they want to be like LeBron or Kobe or Primetime Sanders or Ray Lewis. They might want to turn out and play baseball again.

Young African American kids are turning to football and basketball after about 12 or 13 years old. They are not trying out for high school or college baseball teams. Go look at a high school game or college game readers and count how many African Americans are on the team. Few if any and this is very sad.

If the Mariners sign a future superstar in Prince Fielder it will help the Mariners reach into the inner city and hopefully reach the youth to play baseball and come to Safeco Field and see a game. Heck it can reach the adults too because right now when I watch a game on TV from Safeco Field and the camera goes into the stands, the face on the other end is not a person of color.

So folks what are the Seattle Mariners waiting for? Offer a huge contract to Prince Fielder NOW! And oh yeah, BRING IN THE FENCES!!!

Seattle Native Crawford Signs With Team Near His Home

ARTICLE FROM probasketballtalk.com (Full story click here

I saw earlier in the week that Jamal Crawford was deciding between Portland, the Kings and the Knicks to play this year and I knew JC would pick Portland.

Come on man! Portland is near Crawford’s home in Seattle plus he knows Portland head coach Nate McMillan who used to be the head coach of our dearly departed Seattle Sonics when Crawford was playing high school ball at Rainier Beach.

Of course Crawford is basically taking the place of a fella he has known since childhood in Brandon Roy who also is from Seattle. Roy played his high school at Seattle’s legendary Garfield High School played against Roy at community centers like Rainier and Rainier Beach and Miller and Yesler and Montlake here in Seattle.

Roy had to retire because of bad knees. Too young to retire at only 27 years old. Roy is a real nice dude just like JC and they both do a lot for kids in the “inner city” in the Seattle area.

Jamal can get his own shot and can fill it up from the outside. I think it was a great move by Portland to sign Crawford. During off days he can just hop in his car and drive up I-5 for a few hours and walk into his own home and visit family. Man cannot beat that.

Plus mom and family can watch a lot of Jamal’s games on Comcast SportsNet who broadcasts a lot of Portland’s games during the season or they can get in the cars and ride a few hours on the freeway to watch Jamal.  The main thing is THE NBA IS BACK!!! Gordon Curvey
