The Marketing Of Major League Baseball Is Terrible!

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

One thing I have noticed for the last few years is this. The marketing of Major League Baseball is one word readers and one word only……TERRIBLE!!

Baseball is living in the past. The 50’s and 60’s. This is 2011. Here is a very important question. How many TV commercials have you seen with baseball players in them? Not many.

Right now the only one I can name is New York Yankee Derek Jeter. That is about it. The question is why is this happening?

Here in Seattle. We have a very marketable player in Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez. BUT the marketing of King Felix is terrible. He is in zero commercials in the Seattle area. Just nothing.

Why is it NBA players and even ex NBA players are making commercials. Guys like Charles Barkley, Dr. J, Dwight Howard, D-Rose, D-Wade, LeBron James, Shaq, Karl Malone, Kareem, Kobe and others are in commercials.

Football players like Joe Montana, Ray Lewis and others are doing commercials. Where is the baseball players like Ryan Howard or Ce Ce Sabathia and others?

When you listen to a interview with a baseball player it is very very boring. They talk like there mom just died or their dog ran away or something. ZERO personality. No charisma at all. Something is just not right.

Maybe this is why young inner city kids are not playing baseball. They do not see them on TV like they see basketball and football players. In my opinion the game of baseball has a lot of work to do when it comes to marketing the game. Again this is not the 50’s and 60’s. This is 2011.

Former Guest On “Music Inner City TV” Big Shaq To Retire

ARTICLE FROM foxsports.com (Full story click here)

Former guest on our sister TV program “Music Inner City TV” in the Seattle area, Shaquille O’Neal is going to retire after 19 years in the NBA.

He was a guest on our show three times over the years. He ALWAYS took a few minutes for us when his team came to Seattle to play our dearly departed Seattle Sonics. (pic below with Shaq and yours truly)

As a sports fan I am sorry to see Big Shaq retire because I loved to see the big fella play and dominate the courts like he did for almost two decades.

The NBA will miss O’Neal because he was such a fun loving guy. Always joking around. He took care of business on the court and had fun off the court. Not the night club at 2am kind of fun. Just regular fun.

At Xmas time, O’Neal turned into “Santa Shaq” and for years gave away thousands of toys for the kids in the inner city of L.A. and other cities. He was and is a good dude.

We as sports fans hope he will be around the NBA game for years to come on NBA-TV or with TNT. He will great doing that too.

Sports fans should say a big thank you to Big Shaq for the years of greatness he brought our way. Their will never be another Shaquille O’Neal in the NBA. Thanks Big Fella for the years of basketball greatness ad we wish you luck in your post NBA playing life!   Gordon Curvey

Danica Patrick Moving To NASCAR Next Year?

ARTICLE FROM espn.com (Full story click here)

I watched the Indy 500 race today and saw a crash in the last lap the led to Dan Weldon to win his second Indy 500 race. It was a great race to watch. I am not a big racing fan but I do watch the 500 every year.

Danica Patrick could have won the race if she did not have to make a pit stop with about 10 laps to go because she was in the lead at the time.

Can you imagine the sports headlines all over the world if Patrick would have won the biggest race in car racing in the world? It would have been off the chain!!

Her sponsor, GoDaddy.com was the race sponsor and Danica is the face of the company. All the commercials during the telecast had her in it.

So I know the GoDaddy company was happy as hell to see Patrick lead the 500 so late in the race. I was wishing she did not have to make a pit stop but the announcers let everyone know she had to make a pit stop for fuel.

Finally it looks like Danica will be moving to the more exciting NASCAR series next year. Read the link above to learn more on her possible move to NASCAR. I just would like to see Patrick win a big race real soon.   Gordon Curvey
