I Want Cleveland To Win NBA Title And Why

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

As many of you know I am a NBA junky. I love the NBA. Hell I love the game of basketball. High school, college and the pros. I love the game much more than the NFL and MLB. When basketball season ends, as a sports fan I get depressed.

So now we are the NBA Finals. The Cleveland Cavs vs Golden State Warriors. This is going to be a great series to watch for all basketball fans. MVP Stephen Curry against multiple time MVP Lebron James.  A man playing in his 5TH FINALS IN A ROW!!! WOW!!! That is just off the chain. Five finals in a row by James. This is why some are saying Lebron in the end will be called the greatest player in NBA history over MJ.

We will see if JR Smith and keep up his great shooting in the finals against the Cavs. And of course will guard Kyrie Irving recover from his injuries and help the Cavs. If Irving is recovered…watch out because he is a great young player just like Curry. He can shoot just as well as Curry at times. Now Kyrie has to improve on his passing but he can for sure fill it up.

The finals feature two first year head coaches. Steve Kerr of the Warriors and David Blatt with the Cavs. I DID NOT AGREE with the firing of former Warrior head coach Mark Jackson. And Curry did not agree too. He said it again the other day after Golden State won the game against James Harden and Dwight Howard and Seattle’s own Jason Terry and the Houston Rockets.

I feel Jackson was dogged by the Warriors management who did not like his coaching style. Jackson led the Warriors to their best record in years and was fired? THAT WAS JUST WRONG in my opinion. OK Kerr came in and also did a very good job in leading the Warriors to a place where they can win the NBA title. But I just feel for Mark Jackson. Jackson started to cry after the GS win the other day. I hope a team will hire Jackson soon so he will can again show what he can do as a head coach.

So I want the Cavs to win because the city of Cleveland has not had a major sports team win a title in decades and decades and decades. The Indians almost won but did not. The Browns almost won but did not. The Cavs almost won when James was with them before but did not. But now the Cavs have a chance to make sports fans in Cleveland very very happy. Of course Golden State has not won a NBA title since the 1975 Rick Berry led team won the title. But the Bay has had the Giants win three out of the last five World Series. So they Bay are used to celebrating.

But Cleveland fans are not used to a celebration. So I hope we have a great series that goes to Game 7 but as many fans do, I want Lebron James and his return home, to win the NBA title. WHAT A STORY IF THAT HAPPENS!! James comes home to help the city celebrate a title!!

Serena Williams Continues To Stay On Top Of Her Sport

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

In sports a lot of people are on top of their sport for a minute and then you never hear from them or they just become average players. But a few players in there sport became superstars and stay superstars for a long time.

Kobe , Lebron, Manning, Felix Hernandez here in Seattle, Tiger, Brady, Floyd Mayweather and more. And yes Serena Williams is one star who has continued to stay a star in the world of tennis. I truly truly respected Serena Williams and every sports fan should realize how great of a tennis player and superstar she is.

Serena was born September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan to Richard Williams and Oracene Price. She and her sister Venus, also a great player were trained at a young age in the game of tennis by their father Richard. Williams currently ranks as the #1 women’s tennis in the world by the WTA. She first became #1 in the world way back in 2002 and has regained being #1 six times!!!

She became the oldest #1 player in the world on February 18, 2013. Some say she is the greatest female tennis player in the games history. She is the ONLY female player to have won over $60 million in prize money. She holds the most major singles titles, doubles and mixed doubles titles. She is just great.doe

Off the court Williams makes cash too. She and her sister Venus have planned for what they want to do when they hang up the racquets. You can find Serena on the Home Shopping Network selling her lines of purses and jewelry and ladies wear all the time. Word is she makes millions from that too.

Who know how long Williams will stay on top of ladies tennis. She is 33 years old. Soon her game has to go downhill that is just human nature. You can never win against father time. But right now Serena is winning against father time and many other female tennis players. When you watch Williams play she can be playing kind of bad then all of a sudden she reaches back and somehow obtains more power and BAM another title for the great Serena Williams.

By the way I had a chance to meet the Williams Sisters here in the Seattle area a few years ago and obtained a short interview with them. It was great to meet the ladies and their mom. So sports fans I will admit, the ONLY time I watch tennis period is when Serena or Venus are playing. Let’s see how long Serena can keep being a great #1 in the world type player. But don’t worry, she will be just fine when she retires.

Mayweather Gives Manny A Boxing Lesson In Vegas

ARTICLE FROM boxing.com (Full story click here)

Well all the hype is over readers. For a long time as a sports fan we waited and waited for this fight. And it finally happened in the MGM in Las Vegas with Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao meeting Floyd “Money” Mayweather.

As a sports fan I have waiting for this fight and I was happy as hell all day long knowing the fight was finally going to happen. So as many expected, it turned into a complete boxing lesson from a master boxer in Mayweather. Basically he just played with Manny and did what ever he wanted all 12 rounds of the fights. It was another day in the office for Floyd.

Yes Manny scored with a big punch now and then but it did not bother Money. He just stuck to his game plan made by himself and his dad Floyd Mayweather Sr. During the fight Mayweather Sr was pushing his son to do more. But his son kept to what he wanted to do and that is stick and move, stick and move. And after 12 when it went to the scorecards it was 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 all in favor of Money Mayweather. Some say the fight was boring. Not to me. I was watching a great boxer in action.

Pacman said after the fight in the press conference he had a injury to his shoulder that flared up early in fight. Yeah right Manny!! Give me a break. Give us a better excuse than that. Floyd did not fall for the excuse by Manny. He said after the fight that he was fighting hurt too.

Mayweather is a master boxer pure and simple. His record is now 48-0 and he said he will fight one more time in September. He also said he will give up his many belts he holds before September. So younger guys can have a chance to hold a title.

Someone got PAID a whopping $100 million after the fight and it was Floyd. Might of fact he was flashing to the media his huge pay check so they can see the many zeros on his check. Heck before the fight Money was already worth a half a BILLION dollars. Of course he has many big and expensive cars, houses in many cities, a new jet and many many other things a man with that much money can get.

So let’s see what happens next for Floyd and also Manny. Will there be a rematch? Who knows. We will see.   Gordon Curvey

KJR Host Mitch Levy Puts Smith & Baldwin On Blast On His Program

“One Man’s Opinion” by Gordon Curvey

On this webcast watch future Hall Of Fame member Ray Lewis go OFF about the violence in Baltimore, NHL players and more!

As many of you know I have a well known music program called “Music Inner City Television” but my real passion is sports. I have a huge passion for sports. I love playing it growing up and watching it now.

In my opinion African Americans have basically dominated football and basketball in the last few decades. The top stars in the NBA and NFL happen to be African American. All you have to do is check on TV and see who is doing national marketing of products. KD, Westbrook, CP3, Shaq, Barkley, Blake Griffin, Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Curry and many more.

But off the field on sports radio African Americans are basically a no show behind the microphone. Here in Seattle for a long time sports radio KJR had a all white on air staff and for years I made my voice heard that it was very unfair to have a all white on air staff blasting African Americans at will at a drop of a hat. Very unfair.

Because of my speaking out, African American sports writer Jerry Brewer was hired to be a on-air jock. He did a good job on the air. I will admit we disagreed on a few issues but of course that will happen. Brewer is a very nice dude and sorry to say he is leaving Seattle for a gig with the Washington Post in D.C. Jerry main job is a sports writer and he was the main sports editorial writer for the Seattle Times. I wish Jerry the best on his new position. He is lucky because he will get to cover a NBA in the Wizards.

On KJR, longtime morning host Mitch Levy got on his high horse the other day and started to put on blast two African Americans in the sports world. ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith and Seattle Seahawks Doug Baldwin. A day after having Baldwin on his radio show, for some unknown reason THE NEXT MORNING Mitch decided to bring up the topic “We are tired of Angry Doug Baldwin’s act”. And when a producer or someone asked Mitch how he feels about Stephen A. Smith.

Levy told the person ” When ever I see Smith I grab the remote. Or I run away from he TV” The question is WHY does Mitch run from the TV when Smith is on? Is it because Smith is a highly intelligent black man who has a national audience to give his views on what is happening in the sports world?

I do not agree with Smith from time to time. That is for sure. But knowing how few black men have a national audience to speak about sports, I am very happy to see him as well as the brotha and sista on ESPN with the program “His & Her’s” and Wilborn. So I think it was very very unfair for Levy to run his mouth with his negative comments about Doug Baldwin and Stephen A. on a radio station with zero African Americans on the air on a regular basis with their own program.

KD Ruled Out For Season With Foot Problems

ARTICLE FROM usatoday.com (Full story click here)

As a basketball junky it has been a very disappointing NBA season for one reason and that is KD has really hardly played this season. It has been a wasted season for Kevin Durant of OKC.

And the word is today that KD is out for last few games of this season and the playoffs if OKC makes the playoffs that is. I know all Durant fans are upset. All the youth who follow KD as their favorite NBA player. And I know the management of OKC has to be depressed that KD is out. And KD will have another foot surgery. His third in six months.

So now it is up again like it has been all for Russell Westbrook to fill the void left by the departure of KD. That is a lot of pressure on Westbrook and the rest of his teammates. Of course Westbrook has been a triple double machine since KD has been out. He is in the running for MVP along with Lebron (of course), “The Beard” Harden and Curry.

So now what will happen with KD in the future? Will this foot problem be with him the rest of his career? It was for Bill Walton and others. Next year is a big year for KD because soon he can decide to bolt OKC and maybe go back home to DC and play for the Wizards. We will just have to see NBA fans. Good luck to KD and I hope he makes a full recovery and returns back to the “old” KD.   Gordon Curvey
