Oscar De La Hoya 50-50 About Fighting Again…WHY??

ARTICLE FROM espn.com (Full story click here)

As a sports fan you have to see great sports stars hang around way past their prime. It hurts to see this happen and you should too. Muhammad Ali stayed around to long. Willie Mays stayed around to long. Micheal Jordan stayed around to long. Ken Griffey Jr stayed around too long. Kareem stayed around too long. Bernard Hopkins stayed around fighting to the age of 49!!

Many others stayed around because their mind says they could still do things they could do when they were younger and their body says another thing because father time waits for no one folks. It will catch up to everyone. So when I see a great fighter in Oscar De La Hoya thinking about coming back to fight again I ask…why Oscar?

De La Hoya is 42 years old. And his promotions company Golden Boy Promotions is doing very well promoting big fights. It makes no sense why Oscar wants to come back. Maybe he notices the huge paychecks Floyd “Money” Mayweather is getting these days. In his last fight with pay per view numbers added on, Floyd made around $200 million. So I guess Oscar says he wants a piece of the pie.

De La Hoya says if he comes back he wants to fight Mayweather or Gennady Golovkin. What I am reading I wonder if Oscar wants to have a couple of warm up fights before he fights huge talents in Floyd or Gennady. I would think so,

So as a sports fan I hope and pray that Oscar De La Hoya will not be given a license to fight again. It will be truly sad to see him get his ass beat at 42 years old. Oscar should just concentrate on his Golden Boy Promotions and leave the fighting to younger fighters. Please do not come back Oscar. It will be a huge mistake if you decide to come back!!

Should Ray Rice Get A Second Chance In The NFL?”

Hope you will watch “Sports Inner City TV” webcasts right here 24-7 on demand. Bringing to you “urban” sports news and issues and exclusive sports interviews PLUS classic soul/hip-hop music videos and more!

Watch via smartphones, pc, tablet or mac and watch a “preview” webcast right now with a interview with “The Professor” ESPN writer and broadcaster and 710 ESPN/Seattle radio host and a member of the Pro Football Hall Of Fame John Clayton. Hosted by Gordon Curvey.

I am a tremendous sports fan. This is why I started this site. Of course I am also a human being. I love the NFL. I look forward every year for the start of a new season. And as I type this blog we are headed for the start of another NFL season.

And here in Seattle our Seahawks are favorite to return to the Super Bowl. I watch the NFL Network all year long just like I watch NBA TV. I like baseball but am unhappy with the lack of African Americans on the field and off. But readers I have a question. Should former running back Ray Rice be given a second chance to play in the NFL?

Of course Rice was seen on tape in a argument with his wife Renee and he strikes her and dragged her out a elevator. The video was shocking of course and still is truth be told. And after all the talk on social media and on news and sports programs about why Renee is staying with Rice.

Is it because of his money and fame? She has said she stayed with Ray because he loves him. She has said she doesn’t need Rice but she truly loves Rice. They have a child together. Here is another question ladies and gentlemen.

Should a NFL team give Ray Rice another chance to play football in the NFL? Former NFL QB Boomer Esiason says Rice should be given a second chance to play running back again. I was shocked that Boomer said what he said concerning Rice playing again but he did say it. And I am happy Boomer said it.

Because I also feel Ray Rice should play again for a NFL team. But what team will take a chance on Rice. First of all the team that picks up Rice they will have to deal with the negative feedback from folks who do not want to give Rice another chance. Also if you check Ray Rice stats as a running back right before his problems his stats was heading downhill.

But let’s keep it real readers. Ray Rice could possibly help a team in the NFL. He is a vet who knows how to run the ball. He once was one the best backs in the NFL. His last team was the Baltimore Ravens.

So again sports fans I agree with former star NFL QB and now sports radio host on NY’s WFAN Boomer Esiason that Ray Rice should be given another chance to play in the NFL. He has served his dues. America is or should be a country of second chances. What team will give Rice a chance to play again? We will see.

Why MLB Players Are Not Doing National Marketing/Commercials

I am a very big sports fan. A sports junky. My number one sport I love is basketball. By far basketball is my favorite sport followed by football and then baseball.

When the NBA season ends as a sports fan I get depressed. I really do. But thank god for NBA TV.

Readers I think the NBA does the best job in marketing their stars. Followed by the NFL and far far far behind is Major League Baseball. The question is why doesn’t MLB market it’s stars better?

When you watch TV you can see KD, CP3, Blake Griffin, Farve, Westbrook, Lebron, D-Wade, Aaron Rodgers, our own Seahawks Richard Sherman and Russell Wilson, Manning,  Shaq and more doing commercials for sneaker companies, beer companies, fast food companies and more.

But you do not see hardly any baseball players doing commercials on TV. It is amazing. Heck even old NASCAR legend Richard Petty is doing commercial and so are NASCAR drivers Dale Jr and Danica Patrick are doing commercials.

Do we see former guest on “Music Inner City TV” Andrew McCutchen doing commercials? No, Mike Trout? No. Matt Kemp? No. Felix Hernandez? No. Another former guest Adam Jones? No. David Ortiz? No. Bryce Harper doing commercials? No. I can go on and one. Baseball players are no shows when it comes to national product marketing.

The question is why is this going on readers? When I was young I had pics on my wall of my favorite sports star I saw on TV but kids of today do not see baseball players on TV. They see NFL and NBA players. I should say the kids in the inner city do not see McCutchen or Kemp or Jones. They see Lebron or Blake or KD or CP3 or now Curry etc.

I can go to a inner city kid and ask him or her have they heard of McCutchen most likely they will say who? But of course they I can ask the kids who is Curry and so on they will know him, his points per game and the number he wears!! Real talk folks. The kids will basically know nothing about baseball. This is a problem in my opinion for MLB.

MLB does a TERRIBLE job in marketing. The league is living in 1954 when it is 2015. With the 7th innings stretch and the singing of “America The Beautiful”. And organ playing and “corny” commercials. Football and basketball realizes this is the “hip-hop generation” They do a great job in reaching the inner city kids. Playing Drake and Kendrick Lamar and Usher and Meek Mill etc and playing classic soul artists like Marvin Gaye and James Brown and Wilson Pickett and the Isley Brothers etc at games in arenas in the U.S.

Meanwhile baseball plays AC-DC and ZZ Top and Elton John and The Rolling Stones etc at games. Heck when the Yankees win a game at home they play a Frank Sinatra song “New York”. Young inner city kids ain’t feelin that!!

Young inner city kids think baseball is a very slow boring game and they think players wearing there baseball pants jacked up to their knees is not “cool” looking. That is the way baseball players wore their pants back in the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s and 60’s and more. MLB has to wake up and smell the coffee and get hip.

Kids need to see baseball stars on commercials for McDonald’s and Burger King and Domino’s and Buick and Chevy and Jack N The Box and Wendy’s and Nike and Gatorade and more like they see Serena and Dr J and many more. Until then the kids in the inner city will continue to run to football and basketball by age 12 or 13. It seems MLB does not care but guess what readers? They should look at look at comic Chris Rock baseball piece on from HBO on You Tube. Rock is telling the flat out truth folks!!

Serena Wins French Open For 20th Slam/Racism

ARTICLE FROM voxsports.com (Full article click here)

The Golden State Warriors won the NBA title by defeating the Cleveland Cavs in 6 games in Cleveland.

More details soon right here and on “Sports Inner City TV” via Ustream TV on Wednesday. And will discuss the elitist and uppity US Open at Chambers Bay up in our area near Seattle this week. STAY TUNED!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Look for much more sports information and radio/TV webcasts and podcasts and more INCLUDING classic soul and hip hop AND new music right here on SIC Online!

For some reason sports radio KJR and 710 ESPN here in Seattle did not talk about or discuss superstar and former guest on “Music Inner City Television” Serena Williams winning her 20th Grand Slam in recently winning the French Open.

Serena won while sick as a dog with the flu. But she dug down deep and let people know why she is one of the greatest athletes ever in ANY sport and this is real talk readers. And at the age of 33 she continues to be the #1 female tennis player in the world. Heck she first become #1 in the world way back in 2002 and here it is 2015 and she STILL is at the top of her game. Beating teenagers and other players much younger than her.

But their is a sad story to all the happiness at being a great sports star and being a African American. She and her also great sister Venus has dealt with vicious racism every since their dad taught them the game of tennis and they turned pro as teenagers. It is truly truly sad my friends. Truly sad.

Serena and Venus have been called “monkees” and “gorillas” and yes..the “n” word many many times on Facebook and Twitter and other media and the question is why? Why do people want to call the Williams Sisters these TERRIBLE names? Does it make them feel good calling Venus and Serena these names? It really hurts me as a sports fan that here in 2015 that Serena and Venus have to STILL deal with racism.

But guess what? Serena has continued to let all the racism just roll off her back and she just uses all the negativity as a positive and wins events after events and laughs at all the racist folks who call her a monkey and a gorilla while she makes a deposit of a huge winning check in the bank!

So while sports radio in Seattle treats Serena as a nobody, “Sports Inner City Online” WILL NOT!! Gordon Curvey
