Los Angeles Lakers Back In the NBA Finals For The 30th Time!

ARTICLE FROM latimes.com (Full story click here)

P.S. Lakers would make it back to the NBA Finals? We all knew that would happen. There team is just to good. The Nuggets gave it their best shot but it was not good enough.

Carmelo Anthony made it clear to everyone that he is is a borderline superstar. He has taken that next step to superstardom. Next year he will take another step.

People say LeBron James is the best player in the NBA. I am here to say that James is a great player, but in my opinion Kobe is still the best player in the NBA. You may think different.

With these Kobe and James puppet commercials playing, well at least one of them are in the NBA Finals.

Also the rating for the NBA playoffs have been sky high. Drawing huge ratings. While baseball ratings continue to drop, what is going on is this. BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL ARE “AMERICA’S PASTTIME” not baseball anymore. Gordon Curvey

Former Boxing Champ Mike Tyson’s Daughter Dies After Accident

ARTICLE FROM sports.yahoo.com (Full story click here)

P.S It is truly truly sad what happened to former boxing champ Mike Tyson’s young daughter. God seems to punish Tyson from time to time.

The tremendous loss to Buster Douglass, the messed up marriage to gold digger Robin Givens, the rape case and on and on.

Mike Tyson has really been one of the saddest figures in sports history next to OJ. Both of them had fame and money and kind of blew it.

I have wondered why Tyson went and got the tattoo on his face. But that’s Tyson. And now this. His daughter dies in a terrible accident.

I wonder how Mike is going to take this. I am worried about Tyson. Will this accident send Mike on a path to drugs or something worse? I hope not. This is a terrible thing to happen. Just terrible. My prayers go out to Iron Mike and his family the loss of their little daughter. Four years old. Just a tragedy. Gordon Curvey

Local Sports Radio Treats Leaf With “Kids Gloves” The Question is Why?

ARTICLE FROM sports.espn.go.com (Full story click here)

P.S It is sad that local sports radio station KJR treated the story of ex WSU star Ryan Leaf with “kids gloves” this past week.

One of the hosts said “he feels sorry” for Leaf!! And another host who is a ex Washington State Cougar (Leaf was a star QB at WSU) said he feels sorry for him too and that he has “demons he has to deal with” WHAT???? Give me a break!!!

I do not feel sorry for Ryan Leaf!!! This dude was given millions and millions of dollars and he has messed up a promising career in The NFL. He might be the biggest bust in NFL history.

Why would certain hosts on local sports radio “”feel sorry” for Leaf? I don’t understand readers!!

Of course he is innocent until proven guilty but word is he broke into a home or office to try to obtain drugs for his habit. Yes he has had injuries because of football. But PLENTY of other football players had injuries and they did not turn to drugs and get hooked on pain pills.

Plus Leak has had run ins with the media over the years too. So he has not been a angel. He has been a knucklehead truth be told.

Here is the thing readers. If this had been former Seahawk Shawn Alexander or Hall Of Famer Warren Moon or Sonics greats Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp or ex Husky QB Ishiah Stanback, would KJR hosts “feel sorry” for them” or say they have “demons they are fighting?” HELL NO!!!

They would be roasting them over the air. One host brings up ex Husky Reggie Rogers who has had some problems lately. BUT Rogers is no Ryan Leaf.

Leaf is one of the biggest sports stars in the history of college football in the state of Washington. For local radio hosts to give Leaf a pass is TERRIBLE!! They have treated Leaf with KID’S GLOVES!!!

I tried to get a answer as to why they have skipped over this story and got no answer. Leaf is being charges with GRAND THEFT and more. Why would KJR hosts treat this so lightly but blast Mike Vick or other people of color over the air?

One host was blasting Vick before he was even convicted!!! BUT this same host says “he feels sorry for Leaf” and one host who is ALWAYS bringing up himself being a Coug, talks about the story for about a minute, says he has “demons” and QUICKLY moves on the another topic. THIS IS A OUTRAGE!!!

Bottom line is minorities get treated one way on sports radio in Seattle and others get a pass. Well this should be expected with local stations 710ESPN and KJR has a grand total of ZERO people of color over the air.

This is NOT the change that OUR President, President Barack Obama got elected for. Gordon Curvey

Mariners Should Not Have Traded Adam Jones

ARTICLE FROM si.cnn.com (Full story click here)

I just watched the Seattle Mariners get beat by the Angels tonight. For the eighth game in a row, I looked on the screen for African Americans in the crowd at Safeco Field and I have seen a total of only TWO AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THE CROWD!

Well those two were more African Americans than the Mariners have on their entire team. Ken Griffey Jr is the only African American on the team.

Right now the Mariners do zero advertising in African American owned media in Seattle (The Seattle Medium and The Facts and Music Inner City TV), hardly any African Americans are going to the games and we have one 39 year old African American player in future hall of famer Griffey Jr.

The Mariners traded Adam Jones (picture) who is a five tool player and is having a great start to the season so far. The Mariners said they needed pitching so they traded the young 23 year old Jones. There is full page pic of Jones in this weeks SI.

Tampa, the Phillies, the Dodgers, the Nationals and the Angels draft African American players AND KEEP THEM IN THE SYSTEM. Unlike Seattle.

How can young kids in the inner city be interested in baseball when here in Seattle they do not see any on our team? Only on visiting teams.

Angel center fielder, Tori Hunter and Ce Ce Sabithia are on a mission to help young African American kids get interested in baseball again like back in the day when players like Reggie Jackson, Lou Brock, Ken Griffey Sr, Joe Morgan, Frank Robinson, Paul Blair, Willie Stargell, Bobby Bonds, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Bob Gibson and many many others roamed the fields of MLB.

When it comes to teams like the Mariners and the Red Sox, African Americans are no shows besides Grif Jr, first base Lee Tnsley and broadcaster Dave Sims.

The Mariners are having a little league weekend, I am sure there will not be to many African American kids at the games at Safeco. Besides Grif Jr, no young African American hero to look up to on the Mariners like kids in Tampa have Clif Floyd and Upton and Crawford and the Phillies have Howard and Rollins and Angles have Hunter and Figgins etc.

Big shout out to Seattle Times baseball writer Larry Stone who once or twice a year writes stories on African Americans and baseball. He is the only writer or sports jock bold enough to discuss this topic. The question is why?

This is truly sad. Gordon Curvey

Chauncey Billups And George Karl/A Smooth Relationship

ARTICLE FROM sportingnews.com (Full story click here)

P.S As some of you sports fans know, Denver head coach George Karl is a former head coach of our former NBA team, the Seattle Sonics.

George was and is a great coach. But sometimes he had a bad habit of talking about one of his players in the media instead of behind the locker room doors. He also had a problem with a sport writer or two here in Seattle.

But that is George Karl and will always be George Karl. One thing for sure he had some great teams here in Seattle with Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton and others.

Now he has a good team in Denver with Carmelo Anthony, Nene and Chauncey Billups.

The Detroit Pistons made a terrible mistake in trading “Mr. Big Shot” The Nuggets unloaded Allen Iverson and added Billlups and you see where they are now.

Coach Karl said Chauncey is like another coach on the floor and even allows him to change a play from time to time.

The Pistons are my favorite team right now and I hope Billlups and Coach Karl win a NBA title. Gordon Curvey
